Sure enough, I only managed two episodes before my annual August spectacular got in the way. Finally returning to it this evening, let's see if I can get a little further this time...

A musician I really like, who I've never seen live, has announced a Glasgow date in the near future, hurrah! And it's in a venue that I hate, the only time I went to a gig there I left after half an hour because of how terrible it was. Brilliant.

I see the trailer for Pressure is talking about the "untold" true story... I take it they mean untold apart from the hugely successful play that the film is based on, which toured the whole country and was performed to an audience of thousands

Now watching the 1967 krimi Das Rasthaus der grausamen Puppen, aka The Devil's Girls. There is a small clue in the opening title card as to why this particular one interests me. (And no, obviously it's not actually filmed there)

Enjoyed the Agnes Owens event at the book festival, though it does make me wonder how many other great Scottish books are out there waiting to be rediscovered while currently only existing in the form of dog-eared old paperbacks hidden on the shelves of dusty old second hand book shops.

I've long been fascinated by this chest from the Darien scheme in the National Museum of Scotland. If I had to pick one item from the collection that summed up Scotland, I think this might be it.

Large, very old, empty wooden chest with a ridiculously complex locking mechanism inside the lid

And luckily it was the 1980s so even the shittest of movies still actually understood how to shoot things at night, something even the most expensive of films made these days don't know how to do.

I will go further and suggest that not only are the sequels and prequels not needed, but I could also happily do without the existence of the original film as well.

If you're anywhere near the great city of Dunfermline on Sunday 6th September you can have a Scottish-themed film double bill of the best film of 2025 followed by a bunch of Scottish short films, as part of the Outwith festival.
