Suzanne Ciani's first ever Scottish gig. Amazing.

My phone's pish, here's someone else's photo. In Paisley, no-one can hear you scream.

It's set in London, but filmed largely in Edinburgh and Glasgow, makes no effort to hide it (Arthur's Seat!), and even has people go down one street in Edinburgh and appear in another one in Glasgow etc. If you get hung up on minor Scottish geographical details you'd lose your shit at this one.

Now watching the 1967 krimi Das Rasthaus der grausamen Puppen, aka The Devil's Girls. There is a small clue in the opening title card as to why this particular one interests me. (And no, obviously it's not actually filmed there)

I've long been fascinated by this chest from the Darien scheme in the National Museum of Scotland. If I had to pick one item from the collection that summed up Scotland, I think this might be it.
Large, very old, empty wooden chest with a ridiculously complex locking mechanism inside the lid

If you're anywhere near the great city of Dunfermline on Sunday 6th September you can have a Scottish-themed film double bill of the best film of 2025 followed by a bunch of Scottish short films, as part of the Outwith festival.

Since it's been restored and is now on BFI Player, I'm revisiting Toomorrow, which I appear to have watched (and not been impressed by) just a couple of years ago but have already completely forgotten.

Regret to announce that my trusty Batman / Fringe Survival bag is on its last legs. It'll be a sad day when I have to transfer all these badges to a new bag... Mainly because I got so sick of them breaking off that I've superglued them all

I went to the exhibition at the NLS at the moment on the history of the paperback. It's free, except that I love an old paperback so having been there I was immediately inspired to head to a second hand bookshop and buy a couple so the exhibition wasn't that free to me after all.

Okay then, despite the fact that August is the month when I have the least time to actually watch any telly, I am finally starting on this, years after I picked up the complete box set in a charity shop. It had better be as good as you all said it is.

More genius behaviour from Edinburgh Council. West Crosscauseway now changed to one way from west to east BUT no signs updated to say no left turn and the no entry signs are set so far back you can't see them until you turn in. So cars are now routinely driving the wrong way along it (as per pic).

PSA for Fringe attendees: as the Francesca Moody productions always tend to be the hot tickets, it's worth noting that this year's Roleplay appears to be currently sold out on all but the last day so you may want to move quickly if you plan to see this one.

Vintage post card with a cute kitten in the centre and a caption around it saying "Good luck from Dunfermline" and the four quarters of the image around it show four different views from Scotland's greatest city: the Glen Bridge, the abbey viewed from Pittencrieff Park, Andrew Carnegie's birthplace, and the Glen Pavilion hosting a concert
