Anna Wilson @annapwilson.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I love that I've created a professorial brand such that a student who took a class with me last semester and did a summer internship at a publisher has just left in my pigeonhole a YA steampunk/urban fantasy Sherlock Holmes-esque mystery novel for me to check out. 180
Anna Wilson @annapwilson.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I was startled today looking at reviews of 1980s productions of medieval drama to come across a photo of a young Mark Heap. Who knew he started out in a theatre troup run by his brother Carl Heap, specializing in medieval drama & pageantry?! 020

Anna Wilson @annapwilson.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Today I learned a delightful fact about a 14th century English case in which two officious bailiffs tried to compel a man to enter into a service position under new labor laws, and the local vicar asked them what the hell they were doing and then excommunicated them. 061

I am bisexual and while I usually prefer 'queer' as a label for a variety of reasons, bisexual visibility is important to me, not least because its invisibility to modern scholars has been used to erase the history of queer people! 0110

Anna Wilson @annapwilson.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Being on leave is great except my whole being resonates to the academic calendar, and my subconscious absolutely cannot figure out why I haven't done class prep and keeps treating me to dreams where e.g. I realize 30min before the Latin final that I haven't written the exam. 080

Anna Wilson @annapwilson.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Very good post and thread. If you've any interest in this case at all - academic accuses comic artist of plagiarizing her book about queer history - this is worth reading. 090
Anna Wilson @annapwilson.bsky.social · 14/08/2026To me, allowing the idea that AI itself is a 'worker' of any kind continues to obscure the real exploitation that is happening. Even if AIs DO gain sentience (which I don't believe is either possible or the goal of AI companies) that will still be true. 020
Anna Wilson @annapwilson.bsky.social · 14/08/2026Of COURSE the stated goal is a lie. The goal is to conceal very cheap labor (low-level AI trainers in developing nations and the people whose work supports data centers, water, and power) beneath vastly expensive computer labor (money for which goes to AI companies). 122
