My haunted predictive text story from April, "I Can Still Hear You Breathing," has been nominated for Best of the Net by the wonderful editors at Split Lip Magazine. Those same editors had a substantive impact on the final version of that story, so I'm feeling very grateful to them right now.

September is here, but we're still thinking about our summer reads. ☀️ Fiction Editor @annablabs.bsky.social loved LONDON FALLING!
What did Split Lip read over the summer? LONDON FALLING by Patrick Raden Keefe. A teenage boy falls to his death in London, and his family discovers he's been pretending to be the son of Russian oligarchs. Keefe uses it to explore the ramifications of today's hyper-capitalistic world, and the blurred lines between legitimate money-making and crime, reality and fantasy. Recommended by Anna Cabe, Fiction Editor.

I really cannot think of a greater honor than to have the Muppets say this about you upon your passing
Instagram post from the official Muppets account: Few humans have earned the title of honorary Muppet more than the legendary Tim Curry. As a performer he was unparalleled - witty, charming, unnerving, and deeply funny. We will always consider it one of our greatest treasures to have been part of Long John Silver’s crew. Thank you for everything, Tim.

Somehow I convinced the editors @ @splitlipthemag.bsky.social to publish a 1,300-word story that does not contain a single instance of sentence-level punctuation. Shhh. Don't tell them. (For this ghost story, you may want to move any weapons out of arm's reach.) splitlipthemag.com/fiction/0426...

"The ChatBot doesn’t have the moral fiber optic cables to make a stand, because it’s an algorithm, its workings a black box, its body a string of numbers. The ChatBot can’t even eat fiber" Such a brilliantly-crafted piece, stranding together different elements through powerful anaphora repetition.

I read the NYT piece, and I am holding onto the words of a woman who fended off inappropriate advances from a 60-year-old Cesar Chavez at the age of 19. “It makes you rethink in history all those heroes,” Esmeralda Lopez said. “The movement — that’s the hero.”
