I also finally saw #Obsession which was great and #Backrooms which was pretty good. Love this energy and creativity from young directors. Then I landed in #LAX, where the arrival tunnels are basically an interactive Backrooms exhibit that take nearly as long to complete.

An odd moment at the Annecy Film Festival this summer: at this Animation fest, you can guess what the sentiment was on AI (the AI short "Dance Macabre" was booed by the audience.) Inside the business pavilion though, someone actually tried quite hard to scrape off this sticker in a WC. (1/2)

FYI the HUGE number of AI slop at GamesCom's opening night live is not a sign that the industry has normalized AI. It's a ploy to make you believe that. These games are all by the same 3 or 4 publishers. This is a concerted effort to make consumers accept AI.

The greatest grift of AI is hiding the part that is "the mass theft of all creative property" in with everything else it does. I don't think it's reasonable to say "if AI, then bad!" because AI is so poorly defined in the common lexicon and I think that's very much on purpose.

One of the many reasons #gamedev is in the mess it's in, that I don't see discussed much, is how much ladder and salary chasing in 2016-2023 destroyed coherent development teams. I saw a lot of people go from solid teams to riskier ones for big pay and title bumps. Many haven't panned out.

Yes! But also, if more than X% of a team turns over in less than Y years, they should have to change the name of the company to something new. Too many people diefy what is little more than a corporate entity and a logo. Same rule should apply for bands.
