I painted this to be used for an album that’ll be out soon. It gave me a heck of a time before I decided to paint the face using grey tones, and then digitally painted the color over that base. I’m happy I experimented my way to a solution. (So this is oil paint and procreate :)

This is a small oil painting I did last week. It’s called Iron Giant. I used glazing in it, as well as grisaille to get the form down before adding color.

I just wanna make comics. And not have the spectre of destitution hanging over our heads. But there isn't any secret way out of capitalism, out of poverty. You get lucky, or you get evil. And I don't plan to do that second thing any time soon. So, guess I'll keep drawing.

Medicare for All would save $450B a year. Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity. Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall. It’s not about what this country can or can’t afford. It’s about priorities.

I was thinking how when Scott Adams was about to go and rightwingers were saying “you have no idea what impact it’s going to have when Scott Adams dies, he was loved by millions” and then he just died and nothing happened. These ghouls just disappear when they stop talking

Next time somebody tries to get me to justify the existence of the humanities, I’ll just point out how for the past two Super Bowls we’ve all jumped online and engaged in collective semiotics and hermeneutics of the half-time show as text.

Also, so far I've been mostly lucky enough to have the skills to design and execute my own covers & graphics. The one exception was Common Accord, for which I wanted an old-school sci-fi movie-poster style with character portraits. @angelaguyton.bsky.social did an amazing job bringing them to life 💜

The last 48 hours have shown why people have stopped relying on legacy journalism and have migrated to independent journalists in droves. The benefit of legacy journalism is supposed to be “editors” and “factchecking” and they can’t even get that right in a rush to blame trans people.

I will not work with companies that use generative AI! I see it in the comic space, makes no sense and I find it incredibly disrespectful to the medium and the creatives that make these beautiful stories. Too many people reach out to collab and I see AI on their socials and websites. 👎

Finished this oil painting today. I’m calling it ‘Morning Hunt’. The Prussian blue I used doesn’t really photograph well but it’s a really amazing, deep blue (I wish you could see it in person!) #oilpainting
This oil painting by Angela Guyton is of two dogs (one orange-blonde, the other white with black spots) digging in a the dirt surrounded by branches and foliage. There’s a wooden fence behind them that’s falling apart. The painting has a very cool pallette and uses a lot of Prussian blue.

One thing that doing creative work teaches you is that ideas are worth nothing. Anybody can have an idea. In a writers room you have to come up with a hundred ideas a day, and most of those don’t make the page. It’s the work of making something that gives it value. The patina of humanity.

DuckDuckGo has added a feature to filter out AI images from search results.
Post from "The Rundown"

July 18 at 5:30 PM
 ·
DuckDuckGo has introduced a new feature allowing users to filter out AI-generated images from search results, addressing growing concerns over synthetic content overwhelming authentic visuals online.
The filter can be activated through a dropdown in the Images tab, search settings, or by using a dedicated AI-free domain: noai.duckduckgo.com. The system relies on curated blocklists, including uBlockOrigin’s Huge AI Blocklist, to detect and suppress AI-generated imagery.
While not perfect, it significantly reduces synthetic content visibility. This move sets DuckDuckGo apart from competitors like Google and Bing by giving users direct control over their exposure to AI-generated material.
