With the future of Rochdale's iconic (or some may just call them memorable) College Bank flats still to be decided, I took a wander around and shot some photos before they go (or change). Descriptions in the alt-text. Check the full gallery here - www.anexium.com/photos/colle...
A photograph of the Mitchell Hey block. Shot quite square on, the block rises out of the trees at the base of the image, rising towards the top of the frame. The picture is black & white and in portrait orientation. The flats with their balconies make up two parallel columns up the building. To their right, making a fifth column (in an architecture way, not an colluding with the enemy way) are bricks - an usual choice for many tower blocks nowadays but quite common when these blocks were built. There is staining on the bricks where the mortar has repointed and started to leech. In the background, the edge of the Dunkirk Rise block peeks out.A lower shot of the Holland Rise block. It looks quite squat in this image, and being only 15 stories high it is lower then 4 of the other blocks. Behind the block you can see the edge of the Mardyke block - another of the 15 storey blocks. In front of Holland Rise is the walkway that goes over the garage road and on to the Underwood block. There are trees to the left side of the image, these are what shield the plazas between the blocks from the road the passes the flats.

I doubt there's an international football team who can go from the opposing penalty area back to their keeper faster than England.

I've done some new smoke and flash pictures. Check out the full gallery here - www.anexium.com/photos/smoki... #photography #smoke #flash #art #pareidolia
A photograph of smoke rising from an extinguished candle (candle is out of shot), show against a black background. The smoke is lit from above with a yellow-tint. In a hint of pareidolia the way the smoke has twirled and twisted make it look like we're looking at a side profile of the upper third of a man. He appears to be wearing a half-mask, covering the top of his face. He looks to be holding something round in his hands and he's bowing his head to look down at it.A photograph of smoke rising from an extinguished candle (candle is out of shot), show against a black background. The smoke is lit from above in white light. In a hint of pareidolia the way the smoke has twirled and twisted make it look like we're looking at a side profile of a woman wearing a dress. It has a 1920s style to it. She's tall and elegant. Her head is thrown back, her face towards the sky and her hair falls down her back.

Today I learned that "open until 10pm" is actually a synonym for "we've left the lights but all fucked off home, so actually, we're closed". Which is fair enough if you're an off licence, but less so if you're a FUCKING PHARMACY.

Shot some smoke photography the other night. Wasn't a huge success - couldn't get the smoke to bloom nicely - but I'm happy with how these three came out. Bit of colour correction applied.
It's a colourfully lit close-up of smoke trails. They're swirling in front of a black background. The lower left quarter is a reddish-orange, while the upper-right quarter is a sharp blue. It's a great example of fluid dynamics and could look like a nebula photograph that NASA may release. It's a colourfully lit close-up of smoke trails. Got my copy through the post this morning from @normanrecords.com (they package everything really well so it took ages to get into it...) Looking forward to listening to this tonight. I'm also digging how the a-side/b-side legend is done in the Bass Ritual logo. A simple thing, but nicely done.

Bought some wooden alphabet beads. They were only cheap. Two things. First, I'd love to know how they came up with this distribution of letters. Second, what happened to the letter "i"? Kind of an important letter. There's 8 in this message.
A top down show of a green and white cutting board. Atop the board are small piles of wooden beads arranged into rows. The beads have letters of the alphabet on them. There are 25 piles. Three piles in the top and bottom rows. 9 on the second and 10 on the third. We're missing the letter I.

I wish I could be so obsessively fixated on something as the people on my street are about jet washing their driveways. Barely a day goes by without one of them out there, cleaning one three-inch strip at a time. It's literally just stopped raining and there's one of them out there now.

My two recent camera purchases differ in size somewhat... #BigCamera #LittleCamera (Lomo Instant Wide Glass and - I think - Lenovo G17)
A top down photograph of two cameras lying on their backs on a wooden table. On the left is a Lomo Instant Wide Glass. It's big, really big. It's easily the width and height of three iPhones laid side-by-side. It's silver and black in colour with the back being a retro-themed vinyl pattern. To the right is a "Kodak"-styled mini camera. It's about the size of the thumb. It's yellow.

Fun fact. Today, Oldham is still in black & white, having rejected the move to colour in 1968. Residents voted almost 3-to-1 against the change, with some describing it as "unnatural" and "an affront to northern sensibilities".

Unusual dots of lights around the sun during tonight's #Eclipse. The double image shows that they're moving. I'm not suggesting that these are massive alien spacecraft circling the sun, but...
Two close-up images of tonight's solar eclipse. The eclipse is nearly over so the moon is only obscuring a small portion of the right-hand side of the sun. Around the sun, at roughly the 5 and 7 o'clock positions, are small dots of light - something is catching the light. For a laugh I've proposed that it's aliens, but realistically it's more likely to be something close to the camera. Two close-up images of tonight's solar eclipse. Some photos from tonight's #Eclipse.
A photograph taken towards of the end of the 2026 solar eclipse. The moon is only partially obscuring the left-hand side of the sun. The sun looks like Pacman with his mouth open. In front of the sun is a light tower from a running track. It has four lights in a line atop the pole. On the right-hand side of the lights a bird is sat, oblivious to what's going on.A photograph taken towards of the end of the 2026 solar eclipse. How's my day going? Well, I'm using Copilot to figure out the professional, business alternative to the phrase "useless bunch of fuckstains"...
A screenshot of a "conversation" with Copilot. It reads -

"What is the business professional way of saying "Stop being lazy. Just go and look at the source code and answer the questions I asked you seven months ago!"

Copilot

If you want the professional equivalent while still conveying urgency and accountability, here are a few options:

Direct and Firm

"To answer these questions properly, you'll need to review the source code rather than rely on assumptions. The information requested was first raised several months ago, so I'd appreciate it if you could investigate the codebase and provide a definitive response."

Manager-Friendly

"These questions have been outstanding for some time. Please take the opportunity to review the relevant source code and come back with evidence-based answers rather than high-level estimates or assumptions."

Polite but Pointed

"The answers should be available from the source code itself. Could you please..."

The text continues off the bottom of the screenshot.
