Reading Patti Smith’s memoir Bread of Angels. Just came across this annecdote about her brother getting attacked by Sid Vicious at a club in NYC:

In early December Sid Vicious attacked my brother in Hurrah shoving a broken bottle in his face, narrowly missing his eye. Toddy got seven stitches and pressed charges solely to get him safely locked up, suggesting to the police that he be placed under suicide watch. Unfortunately, he was soon released from jail and two days later he was dead. These things were on my mind when we recorded the Byrds' So You Want to Be a Rock'n' Roll Star. We tore through it propelled by Jay Dee's thundering salute to Keith Moon. In the breakdown I projected Toddy's bloodied eye, the mortification of Sid Vicious, and pondered the future of rock and roll as an art form.
