Happy Birthday… hope you’ll enjoy showing her this photo in years to come! It doesn’t get better though… my just turned 21yr old didn’t want a cake for his birthday but it was important for my wife to make one (for many reasons)… he’s had one slice and we’ve had the rest!

When I first started public speaking I was worried about not knowing the answers to questions. I was told the best plan was to say you don't know and, if possible, suggest a way to find out, or offer to find out later and share the answer. I feel that many people today could do with this advice.

After a decade at Cloudinary, I am looking work. I'm a web developer who's done a lot of devrel, too. I'm good at the front of the front end, great at browsers and standards and deeply understanding and explaining technical topics, and the stem of my T-shaped skills is: "images, on the internet".

Would it really have that much affect on childless high earners? According to the Telegraph there’s less than 100,000 children affected by the cliff so number of households should be less than 100k too www.telegraph.co.uk/money/care/c...

I’ve said this before, but it’s sort of insane that no British political party is willing to champion Games Workshop, one of the country’s most successful, British born and run companies, and would much rather simp for Palantir or OpenAI

I've added the Brexit departure to a BBC chart of boat crossings. They're reporting more racist thug unrest, although they call it a "protest". Considering Pharage was the loudest cheerleader for Brexit, the levels of boat crossing are on him more than anyone.

NEW: According to a bombshell report in the New York Times, Anthropic co-founder Chris Olah threatened to walk out of Pope Leo XIV's Al encyclical launch in May because the pope rejected the idea that machines can be conscious.
Olah's team then privately lobbied the pope's advisers "to take the possibility of model consciousness seriously." Pope Leo XIV held firm.
For months, Anthropic has wined and dined theologians and religious scholars under nondisclosure agreements, hoping they would bless the idea that Claude has moral standing.

I don't like to "go-in" on web frameworks because it's unproductive. BUT Unfortunately, this preload situation is just yet another example of React’s failed abstractions that make pages slower — unless you fix it. It's busy work created by the framework. React-apps are full of these concessions.

⚠️ PSA for React 19 SSR apps: React automatically preloads ALL server rendered images. Without hints, early bandwidth is needlessly wasted. Fix it: * LCP image → fetchPriority="high" * Never lazy load the LCP image * Below-the-fold images → loading="lazy" (this also stops React preloading them)
Screenshot of react.dev docs, with a highlight over the text "React automatically generates a perload hint for an <img> by default."
