Canada is refusing to issue ISBNs to books primarily generated with AI. This illustrates both the urgency of the problem of the growing flood of slop books, and also the toothlessness of addressing it on the honor system without there also being consequences for lying
Use of artificial intelligence
By registering with ISBN Canada, you declare that your book was created by a human author. You may use AI tools only for limited support tasks, such as brainstorming ideas, checking grammar, or formatting your book. You must not use AI to generate the text, create the artwork, or translate the book. ISBN Canada does not issue ISBNs for works whose content is primarily generated by AI. LAC is currently reviewing its policy regarding the use of AI content creation and our guidance is subject to change.

3/5 As investigative reporter Eli Clifton notes, the traditional lobbying playbook just "isn't hitting like it used to." When the daily reality of flattened neighborhoods, displaced families, and dead children streams directly to millions, state suppression and PR fall flat.

Anybody roughly my age or younger has been subjected to two decades plus of non-stop screeching about Hamas, Hezbollah, the IRGC and whoever else. Now, we've all been told to shut the fuck up and 'watch this drive' as Israeli soldiers gleefully broadcast war crimes to their mates back in Tel Aviv.

Like I don't need to convince Andy Burnham that Hamas is bad, that's table stakes. What we need to persuade or compel our political class to believe or act on is that Israel is committing genocide and they're obligated to do everything they can to stop it.

The European and US centre will acknowledge anything other than the fact that our governments are providing unlimited diplomatic cover and material support to one side of this genocide and that's the only thing that's remotely within reach for us to act on.

Since at least 9/11, Israel has wilfully stoked Islamophobia in Europe and across the West and making popular opposition to its enemies contingent upon and wedded to non-negotiable and uncritical support of them. Disgusted with Israel, people choose the option presented to them by this dichotomy.

Also, the most consequential, astonishing revelation 2016-26 is that the centre-left and the centre-right are largely the same thing; they’re all fully onboard with the manifesto of the National Front in the 70s regarding migration and racism, and they’re all roaring authoritarian wackos re: protest

I mean, do we think there's no causal link between training liberals to reflexively concede the right's frame and denounce everyone to their left, on demand, and the state we have ended up in now, with the right running roughshod and the centre terrified and powerless to act against it?

The reason we have Hamas is because the US conspired with Israel and the UK to get rid of the much more leftist PLO, which conveniently allows us to blame Hamas for being against leftist values. What a lucky break for us

This is, of course, simply a rhetorical play act. Suppose that people do "condemn" all these people? Well, you didn't do it enough. Did you contextualise anything? Stop that. Be more unequivocal. Now hop on one leg. I found someone not condemning them - do you condemn them too?
