The #emacs llm module is getting new Jev-style quick decisions, opening up a lot of interesting possibilities. Demo 1: automode, just start typing in an empty buffer and it selects a mode for you!

I am *loving* this use of LLMs. For my current project I'm writing all the code myself, but I have llm-buddy reading my code as I type, giving me feedback. And … it's caught a lot of bugs and style issues. It's telling me things I would've never thought of asking an LLM about.

I just posted a video introducing llm-buddy, with a demo showing how it detects issues in whatever you are writing in #emacs and how it can (optionally) just fix the issues that are too insignificant to mention.

Great feedback on Reddit on my llm-buddy project! I also find it useful all the time - it gives you instant feedback on all writing in #emacs.
Comment text from Reddit: "This has been wonderful for me: https://github.com/ahyatt/llm-buddy from u/ahyatt

It sits in the background and gives me feedback on everything I've written in my text editor. That includes my code, comments, readmes, notes, and even my diary.

It's told me so many things I would've never thought of asking an LLM about, from simple things like bugs and typos, to pointing out things like logic errors between my docs and my code, or telling me that what I wrote in my journal doesn't seem quite right. It's been helpful more often than not. And the times it helps, it helps with things I would've never caught on my own.

It runs so often that my laptop overheated, so I've had to turn it down. But this might be the perfect kind of thing for the OP."

bluesky #emacs client is now on MELPA! Go to town, people, it seems to work pretty well. I intend to support whatever the new community experience is when it goes live as well.

Announcing a new #emacs experiment: LLM commentary on human changes. You write the text, the LLM reviews it, as you write it. Introducing llm buddy! So far, this has been surprisingly useful. It's checking this post as I write it!

One of the best practices Software Engineering has yet to developer is to understand when to use AI to build, and when not to. Even as models get better, it will be important to keep coding at least some stuff by hand. At least, I think so.

Announcing my #emacs client for Bluesky, which is finally usable and available and on github. It isn't yet on MELPA, but please try it out and let me know your feedback! I'm writing this in Emacs *right now*!

After a few years of letting it lie, I'm making good progress on my Emacs client for Bluesky. Yay! I wrote the core by hand, but the rest is vibe-coded. It's really the only way I can get this to a good state.

I see people using coding agents to write unit tests. This will end in tragedy. There's a better way: use a human to write a test that's basically a prompt, and use an agent to execute it against the system directly.

I'm not so sure software engineering is a doomed profession. Yes, companies can do work with far fewer software engineers these days. But using OpenClaw makes me realize just how much work there is to do.

#emacs org-mode is, IMHO, the best system for not only tracking your work, but also tracking and assigning your agent's tasks. But it has a significant flaw that I think my ekg package can address. My video on this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CleN...

I'll go even further - the solution to bad behavior is not blocking or even moderation, although those are necessary, just as the solution to spam calls is not number blocking at the user or carrier level. Instead, the network should make it hard to engage in the bad behavior in the first place.

There's many things to dislike Cuomo for (and, a few things to like him for, to be honest). But one of the big disqualifications is how bad of a manager he is: a glory-hogging nightmare of a micromanager. Mamdani really might suck as a manager too, but I prefer to take that risk.

Trump probably cannot serve a third term as president, the law can't be so easily skirted by technicalities (mostly). But this is the wrong question. Trump can stay in power in other roles, because power can be exercized from many positions. If Vance was Pres., Trump VP, it'd be the same as now.

On vacation, I can’t help but notice street safety issues here in Portugal. This news story is about two cyclists run over by a driver (note they say driver when reporting about collisions instead of car!) Before was a story about a child getting run over by a motorcyclist. Both were a hit and run.

My building has been waiting almost 1.5 months to get NYC to sign off on removing scaffolding. That's on top of 6 months for the Local Law 11 work. Assuming this is normal, the city's inability to field inspectors is adding ~30% to the amount of scaffolding in NYC. And we're still waiting!

@zey.bsky.social's analysis is spot-on, as usual. But I think it's not that easy to predict what will happen, so analysis and plans are likely to be very wrong. In general, with changes like this, people overestimate the changes in the short term and underestimate the changes in the long term.
