This is hard for even the sympathetic to understand. The fact I can do something today - like making a toastie or writing an email or this post - is little indication I can do it tomorrow, or at or by an appointed time. You see the post or email, not the slumping back in bed & hours of recovery.

To give you an example of how invisible disability works, especially regarding accommodations for cognitive dysfunction, after each doctor appointment I attend alone, as exhaustion makes fixing memories difficult, partner asks me a summary of it & which tasks there are ahead (e.g., tests, physio).

In Sweden, almost nothing happens via physical mail anymore, with some exceptions. So, without a digital presence (email, digital mailbox - see Kivra, and Internet connection, bank ID), chronically ill & disable people would be completely isolated from important services and support.

When I hear ableist tropes about chronically ill & disabled people such as "if you can use an email/social media you should be able to work" I wonder if the people issuing such nonsense ever worked in their life or have an idea that writing an email now and again if far from working ability.

Chronically ill and/or disabled people still need to have/use email/s and it is not a sign of ability/health when someone with chronic illness and/or disability makes sure to maintain their email address. Plenty of communication and notifications happen via email and they don't need more isolation.

At the health care centre today, someone was coughing so hard that their doctor went to pick up a pulse oximeter to measure their SpO2. In pure Swedish health care fashion, neither patient nor doctor wore masks. As my partner says, this will result in a health care worker sick for 1-2 weeks.

My wife has a food business. I'm eating some scraps right now. She has had her most successful fortnight ever. She doesn't get sick pay, and would have to let important clients down if she got sick. So it's fortunate that my children wear masks in school.

Rädda barnen vill inte ställa upp på intervju med Dagens ETC utan deras presstjänst svarar skriftligt:

”I vårt arbete med barns psykiska hälsa möter vi många barn som efterfrågar tips på hur man kan hantera känslor, stress och olika utmaningar i vardagen. Därför tog vi 2024 fram boken 99 livsknep, som ska ge barn konkreta verktyg och underlätta samtal mellan barn och vuxna. Den boken har Academedia nu beslutat att dela ut till cirka 7 500 elever i årskurs 4. Självklart ska barn som behöver stöd eller vård få det, och skolhuvudmännen har ansvar för att eleverna har tillgång till den elevhälsa de har rätt till”.

2. Det de vill ha är alltså en elevhälsa som är typ en del av undervisningen. Typ, självhjälp som böcker och foldrar. Typ, specifik kunskap överförd till elevhälsopersonal via föreläsningar, hellre än fler elevhälsopersonal på plats. Typ, billig elevhälsa istället för dyr.

The GP who responds here to George Montbiot's article admirably seems to know about PEM, but at the same time puts doubt on whether physical rehabilitation might not be beneficial after all for people with ME.
First, we need all GPs to not just know about PEM, but understand what it means - in the presence of PEM, physical rehabilitation is not possible, beyond trying to remain as active as can be within one's limited energy
envelope.
Only once we can trust all GPs to understand that, can we trust that those GPs are giving good and safe advice to people with ME.

If you are a woman between the ages of 18-65 and you have myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME) or you are healthy, you may be eligible to participate in a study.
A Non-Invasive Way to Measure Blood Flow to the Head
If you are eligible and agree to participate in the study, you will answer three questionnaires involving more about you, your signs and symptoms, and how well you can think and pay attention.
This is a two-day test involving two different research sessions. During each session, you will do a maximal cardiopulmonary exercise test involving a stationary cycle. Before each test, you will complete a NASA Lean Test. Throughout the study, you will wear an earpiece that measures the blood going to your head.
An honorarium is available to participants.

Patient testimonies submitted to POTS UK, an organisation dedicated to research and support for the condition, evidence just one more way that the impacts of the pandemic are still being felt.
