We're going to need to have official documentation up on @ongakuoverdrive.com, but the short of it is if you are using GenAI in the creation, production, or promotion of your music or brand, we definitely cannot book or work with you. Video games and their music is a creative, HUMAN effort.

It has to be stated plainly: They could do AI data centers and produce less pollution; but it would cost more. We were just starting to slightly curb pollution and now these companies are going to skyrocket it overnight so they can save a couple million dollars.

The Luddites loved technology. They owned looms at home and would ‘mod’ them to count threads. Their battle was against worker exploitation. The degradation of their rights, safety and wages. They were against a handful of rich businessmen owning the means of production. Sound familiar?

I’ve just found a really cool open-source tool for exporting Miro boards as SVG and JSON files. We use Miro for designing levels for the video game we’re developing. Most of Miro’s official export options require a paid plan, which we can’t afford since we’re an open-source project. #GameDev

Can anyone recommend any other good #pixelart apps that support sprite animation? An open-source app would be preferable, although a free or one-time purchase app is also fine. Ideally, it would be usable on both Windows and macOS. No AI features, naturally.

Some of our team uses pixilart.com to produce sprites for our open-source game Pop Pixie. Pixilart is pretty good, but it doesn't seem to let you import existing images and edit them, only their custom .pixil format. #gamedev #pixilart #pixelart

A close-up, top-down view of a hand wearing a dark ring, using a fine-tip pen to carefully ink a stylized creature design in a spiral-bound sketchbook.A top-down view of a sketchbook page containing two rough pencil concept sketches of a ghostly, long-haired entity with sharp claws. A Derwent Graphic pencil and a small piece of black kneaded eraser rest on the page alongside the drawings.A top-down view of the finalized illustrations in the sketchbook, now completely filled in with colored pencils. The top figure is a floating wraith-like character with long dark hair, green eyes, and a flowing blue tattered robe. The bottom figure is the same creature in a crouching position and wearing purple-and-black garments. Both illustrations are signed at the bottom.

WSJ: AI Data Centers Use Far More Water Than Most Tech Giants Report For example, “Meta’s indirect water use was 19 billion gallons in 2024—more than 20x as high as its direct water use” www.wsj.com/tech/ai/ai-d...
"Cheap land and cheap power put data centers in the high water-stress areas," says Matthew Pine, chief executive of U.S. water-technology giant Xylem, which supplies utilities across the country.
What's more, water-hungry, fossil-fueled relics such as coal-fired power plants are now being kept running long past their intended retirement date to address AI demand, he adds.A 2025 analysis from Ceres, a nonprofit sustainability advocacy organization, found that today, the total direct and indirect water demands of data centers in Phoenix amount to about 3% of the city's annual water use. By 2031, they could be in excess of 20%, a number approaching total water used by residents to maintain all of Phoenix's lawns and landscaping.

We need your eyes, fellow players and creators Here’s art for the REVENANT card in Creatures of Darkness, we’re between these two compositions Which do you think has a better vibe for “spiritual creature that possesses corpses”? We value your critical design opinions
Side-by-side comparison of two design versions for a tabletop game card from Falling Up Stairs Games. The card is titled "REVENANT" with a large number 4 icon in the top left. The flavor text reads: "A spirit who reanimates a corpse, seeking to kill the living."

The card gameplay text reads:
"Action: Take any Corporeal or Undead Card from the Graveyard AND perform their Action."
"IF Survived: Place in the Survivor Deck, Kill the Taken Card AND Draw 2 from the Draw Deck."

The two versions feature different illustrations of the same green-eyed, dark-haired creature:

Left Version: The creature is in a low, predatory crouch, glaring intensely forward with claws planted on the ground.

Right Version: The creature is more upright, viewed from the waist up, raising one long-clawed hand high in the air while reaching forward with the other.

Handling screen sizes is something we've thought a lot about for Pop Pixie. Since it's a top-down game, a wider screen means the player can see more of the level, which might let them see things they're not supposed to. #GameDev

Guess who's up at 11:45 at night trying to figure out how to do social media marketing for an upcoming indie game we're developing with a budget of zero! (It's me.) The trick seems to be to talk about the development process itself rather than the game, and also to tag #GameDev a lot? 🤷

Another thing we've found useful is wireframe sketches of levels, which we're developing in tandem with the story.

My advice for any other indie #GameDev s working on games with complex stories: Spreadsheets are you friend! We've just finished tracking every plot point and piece of backstory info in a huge table, tagged by character and topic so we can filter it.
Massively zoomed-out screenshot showing a Miro table with colourful tags in the rightmost columns. None of the text is legible except for the caption at the top, which reads "Exposition".

Our upcoming free, open-source game Pop Pixie was NOT written as an allegory for people losing their jobs to #AI. ...But it might as well have been 😅
Fictional poster that looks like it was made in Microsoft Word 95 that reads: "Grems are taking our jobs! Mr Mentoe thinks he can replace us with animals. If we do not act, the rollout will NOT stop at 50%. All of us will lose our jobs! Unionizing is the only way to save our livelihoods. By working together, we can stop the gremlin rollout before it's too late! Join us for daily strategy meetings in the break room during lunch. SIGN YOUR UNION CARD"

The poster also shows a clip art business man whose head has been replaced with the poorly drawn head of a green, angry-looking creature.
