My only semi-original thought about Cornell is that the ~50 who stood by and probably a few of the 7 rapists knew what they were doing was wrong and could tell you exactly why. And among those, I’d guess most of them probably didn’t speak up because they were worried about the response.

Polls do show this, or at least they did for a long time. Crime plummeted in the 90s but people went on believing it was getting worse. There is, at least, an explanation for that one. Media sensationalize crime and most people rarely experience serious crime so they rely on the news.

Without quite identifying it that way, this might be one reason I’ve been so drawn to backpacking after starting it later in life. I usually conceive of being without a phone as freeing me from social media, but navigating in the first instance without electronic guidance is really cool.

I am genuinely impressed with the battery life switching from a regular Apple Watch 9 to an Ultra 4. Previous watch went from full to 50% battery on a half marathon. Just ran 17 miles and it’s only down to 87%. This is also me bragging that I just ran 17 miles.

Great short thread. In the case of homeowners insurance specifically the industry can pretty easily serve progressive purposes too. Charging huge premiums or even flat out refusing to cover is an awesome lever to mitigate climate risk and possibly even force policy change.
