It is very disappointing to see that all those comments were ignored and this new classification was the one selected. This change destabilizes the current morphological consistency of those families, hiding the deep divergence between the groups lumped. Hopefully this will be undone in APG VI.

The justification presented in the text does not properly justify why these aspects and comments were ignored, and one is left with the impression that inputs that went against what had been decided were simply not taken at face value.

I (and many other Calceolariaceae+Gesneriaceae+friends experts) submitted VERY strong arguments against this lumping. i) Our genomic data strongly suggests Calceolariaceae as very distinct from Gesneriaceae. ii) There are no clear consistent traits shared by the new group to justify this lumping.

In a (large) journal I'm an AE for, we ask authors to reach out and let us know. We take it from there, which can go in many directions, including taking measures towards the reviewer, and adjusting review answer requests. The main message: reach out to the AE and/or EiC and let them know.
