In the past month, I've started waking once a week at 1am--involuntarily--& being so wired that I can't get back to sleep all night. Couldn't figure out why. Wasn't doing anything different. Just realized: I'm scared by what I'm seeing in my research. Nihilistic billionaires toying with our lives.
Headline of June 2025 article by in the Nation by author Jeet Heer:
"The Billionaires Are Abandoning Humanity
Peter Thiel and his friends feel they no longer belong to our species."

The OPs point was that the media outlets are being purchased, which is a legal issue, Democrats' messaging is secondary. Newsom is in there, sure, but so not the point.

I don't like Newsom one bit. What I meant was, you are doing exactly what the OP talks about here, focusing ALWAYS on how the Democrats have failed. Context in this thread, your statement wasn't necessary.

Has anyone in the design/lifestyle/commentary world written about how AGGRESSIVE common object designs are these days? Cars look like alligators coming out of a swamp for dinner; dishwashers like warships in space. Did this presage or follow our current miseries?

My (unfounded I hope) fear since DOGE first was announced, is that AI+drones+Elon+integrated citizen databases would make it possible to target resistance on a mass but individual basis. I feel awful even saying that out loud.

another lesson from these histories is that *margins matter*. it is easier to rig a 51-49 election; it is much harder to rig one that is 55-45, let alone 60-30. voting, in other words, will matter rather enormously in the next two years.

I think my question is, are we the way we are just because our brain is folded so much, i.e., the scale, or is something going on with all our sensors, and perhaps the way we experience time, that sheer scale doesn't account for? I could be wrong. As I said, I'm a layperson.

Rule number one in politics: don’t drop a kid on stage. Unfortunately for Vivek Ramaswamy, he missed rule number one. What a total blunder, let alone in front of a rally Trump attended whose attention you just know he was yearning for. A total embarrassment, yikes!!

I have been washing our dishes by hand since early September, due to delayed new dishwasher install, and now I want to write a novel that's a diary of an 18th century non-noblewoman doing housework, and nothing more. Stakes galore.
