We have truly not yet figured out how to cope with a person or institution that is "aware" of climate change, "accepts the science", but then decides to continue actively worsening it anyway We don't even have a word or a phrase for this! theconversation.com/mark-carneys...

Mark Carney’s climate inaction is at odds with his awareness of climate change’s existential threat
Climate action no longer seems to be a priority for Prime Minister Mark Carney, despite his previous activism. This is bad news for Canadians and the climate.

“You don’t look sick” Thanks that’s the goal. But here is what you don’t see. I cancel plans, I rest for hours after a shower, I forget basic words mid sentence, I grieve a version of myself barely remember, fight everyday against a body that doesn’t cooperate. It is not just tired. It is chronic illness.

I'd love for you to spread the word or if you're able and interested, to buy one. These are NOT prints. They're one-of-a-kind acrylic paintings! :) DM me if you're interested! Thank youuu ❤️‍🔥 If you live outside Calgary but really want to buy a painting DM me and we'll figure out how to transport it.
Five framed paintings, two hanging on a white wall and three below them on an orange mantel arranged in a row. Paintings feature 3 portraits and one landscape and one vase with flowers. First overlaid black text in a white box in the top left reads: The 5-Painting Abolition Fundraiser for Mutual Aid Canada and @wallsdowncollextive. The second text box is on the bottom and reads: $200/painting is not a is-this-worth-$200? but a I-can-vibe-with-this-painting-while-feelin -awesome-redistributing-my-wealth-towards-an-abolitionary-cause. Third text box is teal in the middle right under a portrait painting and reads: First one purchased! Painting 5 "Watermelon Skin"! Thank you @monday_ks you amazing human and breakdancer extraordinaire! Fourth text box is yellow on the top left under a painting of white flowers in a blue vase says: Second one purchased! Painting 4 "Evening's Dream"! Thank you Ellen @ehichang you star human and poet! And thank you Dianne @dimsummo for transporting the painting on your next trip.

Painting 🎨 2 "Vision" is my favourite one for the colours--I love the pinks, browns, and purple-blues--and it's the first one I did after getting back into painting in the fall 🍂. The eyes are my favourite feature of this painting and the textured background is a close second.

Hey beautifuls, ✨ 3 paintings ✨ left! As some of you may know, I'm trying to raise $1000 for Mutual Aid Canada and Walls Down Collective by selling 5 of my paintings. This post highlights the 2nd one: Painting 🎨 2 "Vision". Some notes on this one...
Painting is of a bald person staring straight at the viewer. Pinks, browns, a d dark browns, and purple blues make up the skin and background. Painting is framed in white and black mats inside a simple black frame on a white wall with a snake leaf protruding over the lower right of the frame.

Painting 1: I tried different primary hues so it was a challenge for me. I enjoyed creating the strong contrast between foreground and background and the harsh shadows. The powdery look makes me think of the dust that settles on things hence "Reminiscence" 😜 lol something like that.
Painting of a face turned slightly left with closed eyes on a dark background. A red butterfly rests on their nose. Yellow strokes suggest blonde hair. Picture is framed with a white mat and simple black frame. A snake plant leaf points up below the right side of the painting on a white wall.

Just a note to approach buying a painting with the idea of not whether it's worth $200 but hmm... do I like this art enough to hang it in my kitchen while feeling good about my money going to mutual aid or to support the unhoused without police interference? ❤️‍🔥💜❤️‍🔥

Painting 🖼️ 5 "Watermelon Skin" (this one was more challenging since I used a computer drawn reference so the colours and shading were different from a photograph)
Painting of a person turned left with pink skin and black shiny hair down past their shoulders with bangs on a green background. Painting framed in an ornate bronze coloured frame on a white wall with a plant leaf in the lower right corner below the frame.

Painting 4 🖌️🎨 "Evening's Dream" (my first time painting flowers; I like the composition and textures background in this one)
Painting of whitish purple flowers in a blue vase on a brown surface with a dark background. Framed in a gold and black simple frame on a white wall with a snake plant protruding a leaf over the bottom right.

Painting 🖼️ 3 (I usually don't do landscape paintings; I love the complementary pinks and greens in this one)
Landscape painting has conifers in the background with a pinkish green island on the front right and a smaller island in the left foreground. Water shows reflections in blue green hues. Painting framed in beige mats inside an ornate coffee frame on a white wall with plants below it.

If you're still looking for a gift, here's an idea: HOW TO TELL WHEN WE WILL DIE (Johanna Hedva) Pulled quite from the book in the second photo. 💜😈🥰🙌🏼
Blush pink book cover of Johanna Hedva's How to Tell When We Will Die. Black text in a white box on the right says: Read this. It's funny and paradigm-shifting, reframing disability not as a physical issue but a social one.
We will all become disabled at some point if we aren't already. How do our society and our relationships with one another and with disability accept it as a natural evolution of the human condition?Pencil sketch of a person with long dark braids turned to the right and looking up above them where a peach box with black text reads:
"I BRING DOOM INTO THE CONVERSATION TO SHOW THAT IT IS A PLACE TO BEGIN, NOT TO ΕND.

ONCE I STARTED THINKING OF DOOM AS LIBERATORY, I FELT FREE FROM THE DREAD IT CONSTITUTES WHEN IT LOOMS IN THE FUTURE.

HOW MANY OF US HAVE ALREADY MET OUR DOOM AND THEN HAD TO GET OUT OF BED AND GO ON?

HOW MANY GROUPS OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THEIR WORLDS END, KEEP ENDING, AND STILL THEY FOUND WAYS TO COOK FOR EACH OTHER?

HOW PRIVILEGED ARE YOU IF YOU FIRST REQUIRE HOPE IN ORDER TO ACT?"

A plain red background with white text on the front depicting a quote from Chido’s interview. A white oval outline circles around the words "possible in the genre." Just below the text is a small, circular frame with a photo of Chido. Next to the image are the words "Chido Muchemwa, First Reader, Augur Society". A light red bar at the bottom shows the Kickstarter logo on the left, the words "On Kickstarter until October 31" in the middle, and a smaller green bar with the words "Back us now" followed by an arrow to the right.

I received these noise-cancelling bluetooth earphones (Soundcore Life Dot 2 NC) a few years ago and love them. They have 3 different noise-cancelling states that are customizable with their app. It's been great when I work in coffee shops, walk through traffic, and work through noisy construction.
Black earphones next to a rounded rectangular black case on a wood grain background. The case and earphones have a music note logo imprinted on them.

I appreciate this article's point on thinking more fluidly about narrative structure and how multiple forms can map onto the same story. And Jane Alison's book is indeed mind-opening; personally, it helped me to realize my current novel-in-progress is best served by a spiral narrative. 💜
A book cover comprises of a mosaic of blue-hued rectangles with interruptions of blue serif font on a white rectangular background throughout the mosaic, reading, "Meander, Spiral, Explode." There is a white border on the book. At the top right is "Jane Alison" in larger blue serif font. At the bottom in italicized smaller blue serif font is: "Design and Pattern in Narrative."
