Latest WSJ poll: "63% want to pause AI development 61% want a billionaire wealth tax 59% want Medicare for All 57% want a $20 minimum wage 58% want to end U.S. military aid to Israel" This is the center of the country politically. it is time all adjust to this political spectrum, esp. media.

We are paying CNN and MS NOW to run ads for Donald Trump right before the midterms. You and I are paying for them. And CNN and MS NOW are taking the cash while their hosts and guests say the scheme is illegal. That is the current state of corporate media in America.

Basically using LLMs and agentic ai is a massive security risk and no one should do so basically ever and these companies should be prosecuted for hacking. Also two-party consent should extend to all electronic communications.

One of my most galaxy-brained takes is that politicians and political groups should talk more about workers’ share of national income. It's one of the clearest, simplest ways to describe how billionaires and corporate elites captured so much of the economy--and something policy can change.

I think the "my parents didn't spank me or yell at me and I turned out fine" crowd needs to be louder. I got my fair (debatable lol) share of punishments but they didn't involve raised hands or voices. My parents set boundaries and expectations early. I had consequences.

That uncanny feeling when Sonnet 4.6 evaluates the core cognitive failure uncovered in both stories with more acuity than the dingbats at the Pentagon:
Max's framing adds something important to what we've been saying — and Randy Herman's highlighted line is the knife in it.

We've been talking about Al-in-the-loop as an accountability diffusion mechanism, which it is. But Max is pointing at something that might actually be worse: genuine, sincere cognitive abdication. Not cynically inserting Al to create cover, but actually believing the Al had done the thinking — actually treating the output as resolved judgment rather than as an input requiring scrutiny.

"It is not clear why they had such expectations" is investigators' language for: we cannot find a rational basis for the degree of trust these operators placed in this system. That's not a coverup being constructed after the fact. That's people who genuinely outsourced their epistemic responsibility and did not know they had done so.

Which brings it back to the hype environment with real force. When the vendors, the press, the culture around these tools spends years telling people that Al is smarter than humans, faster than humans, less biased than humans — when the entire discourse around adoption is framed as resistance to AI is the error — you produce operators who are not cynically hiding behind the output. They are sincerely trusting it in contexts where that trust is catastrophically unwarranted.

McNamara's people at least understood they were constructing a measurement system. They argued about what it measured. These operators apparently didn't know they needed to ask.

The IBM slide assumed the human in the loop would know they were in a loop. That assumption may no longer hold.

(Note: the aforementioned IBM slide is the famed one that reads: "A computer can never be held accountable. Therefore a computer must never make a management decision."

They have made living so difficult that people are gleefully shifting activities of living to computers. Need a teacher? Let AI do it. Need a therapist? Let AI do it. Looking for love? Let AI be it. This is why I rail so hard against AI. If computers do the living for us, what do we become?

longtermism is so repugnant that I hesitate to address it on its own terms but: on its own terms this shit is clearly wrong. the best way *now* to encourage a happy future for umptillion beings who use technology we can't imagine is to make the current world more just for everyone.

We don't talk enough about how the people who designed public restrooms were some absolute freaks. They're all maximum share, minimum privacy. Why are there cracks between the stall door and the frame? Why can I lock eyes with someone locked in on the toilet? Why don't the walls reach the floor?

Screenshot of student Tweet saying they were biometrically monitored watching a video of their parents critiquing them. They describe their hands shaking all afternoon afterward.

The rise of the "working homeless" isn't just about the chasm between wages and rents. It's also about the degraded nature of work itself: volatile schedules, eroded job security, and a lack of basic benefits like health insurance or sick leave—all of which put stable housing further out of reach.

If you object to public-funded housing of homeless people, in the end the objection cannot be the cost, because we pay a premium to be cruel to homeless people. At the bottom of the objection will always sit dehumanizing cruelty and a desire for eradication.

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,
