Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

Ignorance comes at a cost. Everpure's 'stuck in the Dark Ages' stereotyping (on left) shows how little they know about the early provision of data (on the right). Why does ushering in technologies mean mocking those upon whose knowledge we build? Clearly, these companies need trained humanists!

Big same. I tried to get into soup last year, but my constant complaint was that it was too wet.

I thought it was at least widespread across the midwest! This came about because somebody's neighbor's husband got three (!) deer tags this year so they have to clean out the freezer.

Got to describe a meat raffle to a friend this afternoon, since I guess they don't have them in Ohio? We discovered meatraffles.com which honestly has a pretty good way to tell if you'd enjoy a meat raffle.
Screenshot from a website with a list.

Do you like winning meat?
Do you like free beer, soda, food, and snacks?
Are you willing to accept meat from a stranger off of a table?"

Did more research and am totally loving Seattle's page about all of this, especially the little templates and notes you can fill out and give to neighbors (or leave at their door if they're not home).

Clearly this just needs to be a thread I revisit. Larger house task today that's been languishing for almost three years (set up dehumidifier in musty basement to have some effect until I can do an HVAC upgrade to handle it better)

MSP: where can my kid meet and spend time with some rabbits? He’s been obsessed with watching the wild rabbits in our yard all spring/summer, loves videos of pet rabbits being silly. Are there like… therapy rabbits? Rabbit meet and greet? (Absolutely NOT getting a pet bunny tho)

Logistics considerations for keynoting: have somewhere you can clip a mic pack (pockets or a belt), and ask if the lav mic will be a lapel clip or an over the ear. The black is banger, will hide sweat, and make any jewelry pop! 💜

There is a moment at the very very end of Abdul El-Sayed's podcast with Ezra Klein (book recommendation section) where he talks about the idea of "speaking truth to pain" and this will be staying with me for an extremely long time. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/25/o...
But there’s also something about truth to pain. We talk a lot about truth to power, but I think it’s actually a lot harder to speak truth to pain. I say that as someone who went to medical school, realizing that in a lot of our politics right now, we’ve got to get a lot better at speaking truth to pain if we’re going to get through some of these challenges that we have.

What does “truth to pain” mean?

It’s one thing to look power in the eye and say: You’re wrong about this. But there’s a way in which pain is very difficult to reason with. Because when somebody is in their pain, they’re in their trauma. They see that pain, and they may not see what’s causing it.

I remember just very explicitly being in a trauma ward with a gunshot wound patient and watching this big guy with his hand on his gunshot wound. All the folks are trying to pull his hand off his pain, that point of his gunshot wound, this clear vulnerability.

And this emergency room doctor had the presence of mind to be like: Everyone, stop. And she looks him in the eyes, and she’s like: I get that really hurts, and I’m so sorry that you’re here. You don’t want to be here. We don’t want you to be here. But if you don’t let us fix this, you could die. So I’m going to take your hand, and I’m going to move it off, OK? Because I need to get there so that you can live.

She was speaking truth to pain. He understands he’s at the hospital, he needs care, but he also doesn’t want anybody to touch the wound. Which is a natural thing. And I think it is a really great metaphor for how we think about a lot of these challenges we talked about today.

My husband and his friends realised they thought they were good guys but still made like, ironic-sexist jokes. They introduced the 'sexism snake' where wherever one of them made a sexist comment or joke, the others would just start hissing. Didn't need to get into an argument about it, just hissing.
