Gods, every time I reread Grace Draven's "Entreat Me", I'm flummoxed again by how very nearly perfect it is. Absolutely a masterpiece.

I just read a complaint about the Astarion book changing his original attackers from the gur to thugs. Poster first acknowledges the change was due to connections with Roma stereotypes, then complains it's "prioritizing a more inclusive message comes at the expense of the story's distinctiveness."

@tkingfisher.com wrote a character who is doomed, who knows he's doomed, and who WE know is doomed, but it's Hadestown: we all think it might turn out this time.

The best way I can describe Astarion in ASTARION is that he's...desperate for who he was, even though that person has been stolen, vivisected, and put through a cheese grater.

This is not about letting men off the hook for their role—active or passive—in upholding rape culture. I continue to have these vital conversations with my teen boys. It's about my own safety and emotional wellbeing; remembering the beautiful corrective experiences I have had with men in my life.

Once again, I feel the tension between simultaneously holding, in one hand, the "not all men" flung as a deflection and refusal to confront rape culture, and in the other hand, holding "not all men" whispered to myself as a powerful reminder of the myriad of men who have been a part of my healing.

fun fact: one of the things that made me decide "no, I will get an actual diagnosis", rather than just assuming, was the subtitle of a thread about ADHD on the SomethingAwful forums because it hit so hard it hurt it was along the lines of "if you were lazy, you would be having fun"

Another year of school sports means discovering random inaccessibility at the various schools in my city. One parent meeting down, and there's already a lack of disabled parking spaces (plus no curb cuts) and a broken button for the front door. Tune in throughout this year for exciting updates! 🧑‍🦽🫠

The cause of migraines being more prevalent in autism remains something of a question mark, Dr. Nwaobi says. However, she believes one conceptual bridge lies in how the brain interprets and responds to sensory input.
"Migraine is a sensory processing disorder at its core, characterized not only by head pain but by sensory disruptions around light, sound, smell, balance, etc.," she explains. "Autism, likewise, is defined in part by atypical sensory responses, ranging from sensory sensitivity to profound aversion to certain stimuli. There is overlap in abnormal sensory processing occurring in both autism and migraine, raising the possibility of a shared neurobiological vulnerability."

This is for my fellow ADHD baddies: often we have more "routines" than we first realize. For example, I don't have a *daily* planner routine, but I do have a *yearly* planner rhythm and can identify times in the year when my interest waxes and wanes. So I buy 2 planners/year: January and August.

Yes. And how do that is to do what you know to be right and just all the way through. Dolly showing up for queer and trans people, for example, was not the easy or crowd-pleasing move, especially for her audience. And she funded a vaccine that got *incredibly* politicized. For example.

Apropo of nothing: I'm increasingly concerned about the way folks wield the idea of "privilege" in such a way that very much fails to differentiate between "special advantage" and "basic human right." Like "your generational wealth, rooted in whiteness, gives you contacts" ≠ "your right to safety."

I need new books and authors! Current vibe is cozy-ish, with elements of romance. It could be a full romance, but doesn't have to be. Very open on setting: contemporary, historical, fantasy, and sci-fi are all fine, and zero-spice to full-smut are all welcome. Would love a series of standalones!

There's a driving force in our neurodiversity movement that works to simply include "acceptable" neurodivergencies, like ADHD and Autism, in our existing neurotypical societal power constructs, rather than building a true neurodiverse framework that would include the dangerous, messy, unacceptable.

I've been nicknamed "thera-parent" by one of the neighborhood kids because I mediated a dispute about someone feeling left out in a way that apparently sounded like I'm a therapist—to which I responded with a somewhat baffled, "this is just what a parent does?" Hence, I'm a thera-parent I guess???
