A hazy legal landscape means people can get high on hemp products, even where pot is prohibited
The 2018 farm bill legalized hemp products that offer a high similar to marijuana nationwide. Experts worry that lax regulations present a public health risk.

On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...

My occasional reminder to folks on tenure and promotion committees that there will be a cohort of people whose early careers were defined entirely by the pandemic and *waves vaguely* this nonsense, and it *will* impact their productivity. It can't not.

Those in LA: I attended a webinar hosted by the Coalition for Clean Air. We heard from environmental scientists about air quality concerns from the LA wildfires. I found it both informative and bleak. But knowledge is power, so sharing the link to the recording. m.youtube.com/watch?v=gdHM...

A new rule by the FDA would strip cigarettes of most of their nicotine. Without the chemical, “a cigarette is just smoldering leaves wrapped in some fancy paper,” writes Nicholas Florko:

HUGE news in tobacco control. I’m seeing a lot of comments saying this will lead to people smoking more cigs to attain the same nic hit, but that’s just not what the science tells us. Models show this rule could result in 12.9 million people quitting in just 1 year. www.fda.gov/news-events/...
