I've had the google home equivalent for years. I don't like using my phone for most kitchen tasks. It's good for showing active timers or music/videos playing on screen. It has better speakers than my phone and has a spot on top of the fridge

the reason it factory resets the phone when the bootloader's unlocked is to prevent exfiltration of user data without their password e.g. if the phone is stolen

Surely Biden's mental decline was part of it too? I saw lots of "don't believe your lying eyes, protect the incumbent" from Dem leadership. Similar to Gaza, it smelled like a performance to protect existing power If Biden had passed the torch to Harris before the primary it would've helped I think

State-level anti-discrimination is a worthless protection when the feds are the bigots Every one of those doctors that refuses to provide care is a coward rather than standing in solidarity with trans people. I frankly don't care what their independent legal counsel says: make them fight

This seems like a pretty big deal: donors made illegal contributions to Susan Collins and then were awarded lucrative contracts after her office intervened with the Navy. An FBI investigation was dropped under Trump. www.propublica.org/article/fbi-...
To skirt campaign finance laws and conceal the source of the funds, Navatek planned to funnel the donation through a shell company. The CEO wanted assurance that Collins would know where
the money came from. Reed confirmed that she would, the executive said - and that Navatek would get its government contracts.
After the Corner Bakery meeting, Navatek's CEO, Martin Kao, sent an initial $150,000 to the Collins super PAC using the shell company. Two months later, he told Navatek executives that Collins committed to getting the company $32 million in naval contracts, according to an internal company email reviewed by ProPublica.

Dude thinks he's appealing to "moderates" (really just a handful of right-wing podcasters) and can't stop printing out receipts that say "Gavin ain't got that dog in him." His veto may as well have been sent from another planet where Republicans don't instantly breach every supposed norm.
While I share the author's views on the importance of protecting these important healthcare services, extradition is an exclusively executive function. When discretionary, that discretion is appropriately placed with the Governor. I am troubled by the precedent that would be set if an outgoing administration agreed with the Legislature to erode the executive authority of an incoming Governor based on their shared policy preferences, regardless of how righteous and well-intended those actions may be.

"“The fact that they didn’t take the cameras down shows that we are the product,” Diaz said. “They were never really selling to us in the first place. What they are doing is selling to much bigger agencies the ability to spy on a ton of people.”"

This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
Not only is this system astonishingly untested, USPS has simultaneously implemented an
impracticable zero percent failure rate.
13 When ballots are submitted to USPS in large-volume
batches, if any one ballot in the batch cannot be verified against the Portal, all ballots in that
batch will be rejected. For example, if a state election official brings a batch of 10,000 ballots to
USPS and USPS is unable to match just one of those ballots against the Portal – because, for
example, someone has recently changed their name after marriage or they’ve moved – then
USPS would refuse to mail the remaining 9,999 ballots as well. As the whistleblower notes,
