Something genuinely amazing about making Alberta your FIRST STOP to learn about Canadian attitudes to the United States. You may as well go to Catalonia and say that it's interesting to see they share similar issues to you with the government in Madrid.

SF SHOWDOWN — Democratic State Sen. Scott Wiener’s bid for Congress is getting another big-money boost, per a filing seen by POLITICO. Government That Works, a national Democrat-aligned super PAC that’s spent money this cycle to flip Maine’s Senate seat, is channeling $1.5 million to the Wiener-supporting Grow USA committee that’s funded by wealthy San Francisco players like clean energy entrepreneur Nicholas Josefowitz and crypto founder Chris Larsen.

Personally, I think what really threatens American Jews is insisting our safety is dependent on denying what the whole world sees, that the Israeli gov committed war crimes against Palestinian civilians. Force people to think protecting Jews means denying reality, and they will stop caring about us.
from Melissa Braunstein: "Nobody waged war against civilians. Lies like this from authority figures set dangerous things in motion that negatively affect *American* Jews."

no i'm not kidding, how is this almost any different from what I'd hear Republicans say
But municipal ownership only goes so far under capitalism. With the hollowing out of the labor and socialist movements in the 75 years that followed, Democrats have overseen increasing rate hikes and bloated Seattle City Light to enrich wealthy and connected executives.

Seven of the ten highest-earning city employees are Seattle City Light executives, including the CEO. The previous long-running CEO, who left at the end of 2025, made nearly $500,000/year. Now the highest paid city employee is Dennis McLerran, the Deputy General Manager of Seattle City Light, earning almost $400,000/year. And our “socialist” Mayor Katie Wilson hired this guy!

Seattle City Light isn’t the only department with bloated executive pay, but it is the worst. If we capped city employee salaries at a measly $140,000/year, the city would save $139 million every year. The current budget deficit is $175 million, so it would almost completely solve the current budget crisis. And that $139 million in savings doesn’t take overtime pay into account, which would likely push it over $175 million.

Of that $139 million, nearly a quarter of the savings comes from Seattle City Light. That is even more saved than the infamously overpaid and overfunded Police Department. Half of all Seattle City Light employees make upwards of $140,000/year. And if we capped City salaries at $120,000/year, it nearly doubles the savings to $250 million per year.

To be frank, this is approaching Charles I's attempt to arrest the Five Members in 1642 and we ought to treat it with the same gravity. And perhaps remind those involved how things turned out for Charles I after 'all his birds had flown.' How about we not restage this particular episode?

punch back hard
the next day, Louisiana Senator and disgusting bigot John Kennedy claimed that Democratic Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed “sleeps in a Bin Laden jersey”—an unabashedly racist and Islamophobic insult. El-Sayed did not deplore the lack of civility. Instead, he said that Kennedy “wears his bed sheets out at night.” Which is entirely fair. If you say racist shit, you get called a Klansman.
