A 1983 ad for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Treasure of Tarmin, a dungeon crawling RPG for the Intellivision by APh Technological Consulting The text warned players that "These dungeons are going to give you the creeps. Getting rid of them is your problem."

Treasure of Tarmin was a dungeon crawler for the Intellivision, a console in the early 80s. It featured quite a few, relatively sophisticated features such as an inventory, randomly generated dungeons with multiple floors, and real-time combat.

The ad notes that "This new Intellivision video game has 4539 tunnels, 256 dungeons, 1 hidden treasure and no room for error."

This is a recent response to a point I made in an interview, talking about how there's this sense online that RPGs should not be fun for the GM. They should be rewarding. And that if an RPG becomes sufficiently fun? Then it's really a board game or a video game in disguise.

There's a brief 60s X-Men plot where Jean leaves the team for college and has a normal guy boyfriend. He gets sorta forgotten about but I like to think years later Dark Phoenix is hovering over NY screaming that she is fire and life incarnate and he's like "oh that's crazy, I used to date that girl"

Having written a TV show built on "deep dives on one bad rich guy per week" with one version 2008-2012 and another 2021-2025, I'll say that the OG evil rich guys were evil greedy assholes, and the new rich guys are mentally disordered perverts, and so do evil. And not the good kind of perverts.

FRPG Player Tip: Even the most serious games have room for humor and in-character joking, but respect the tone the GM sets for the campaign so you don’t push the humor too far. Being told that the red dragon boss is named “Yrtraazon” versus “Biff” should give you a sense of where the bar’s been set.
