ICE has now spent over $2.2 BILLION on purchasing 4 private prisons from CoreCivic, with the company banking half a billion dollars on the most recent sale. Of course, ICE will not actually operate these facilities; CoreCivic keeps the contracts to run these places for the foreseeable future.

The NYT removed the "um"s in Trump's answer on Taiwan, but put "um"s in AOC's answer on Taiwan to make her look dumb Trump said "Um, I would say 'like' is maybe too strong a word...um, no, I'm holding that in abeyance and it depends on China, depends, it's a, it's a.." L: Trump R: AOC Video below
The New York Times: The American president’s comments had been released over the weekend, after Mr. Trump left a summit with Mr. Xi in Beijing on Friday. He said he was keeping on hold a decision about a package of weapons to Taiwan worth around $14 billion, and described it as a “very good negotiating chip” that could be used with Beijing.

“I’m holding that in abeyance and it depends on China,” he said in an interview with Fox News. It was not immediately clear what Mr. Trump wanted China to do in return. The New York Times: The visit also demonstrated the relative foreign policy inexperience of Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, who has made a few overseas trips since taking office but does not sit on any House committees devoted primarily to world affairs. She struggled at times to formulate succinct answers at a nighttime panel session, during which she was asked probing and specific questions about how to respond to international crises.

Questioned about whether the United States should send troops to defend Taiwan if China invaded the island, she stalled for roughly 20 seconds before offering a substantive response.

“I think that, uh, this is such a, a — you know, I think that — this is a, um — this is of course, a, uh, a very longstanding, um, policy of the United States,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said, before saying that the country should try to avoid reaching that point with China in the first place.

My god. Essential, horrifying reporting here.
A few days after the incident in which Amalia lost consciousness, Marcano brought her back to the clinic at Dilley. A staffer measured Amalia’s blood-oxygen saturation—which, in a healthy individual, is between ninety-five and a hundred per cent—and found that it was in the low fifties. “Such a low amount of oxygen going to the brain can, if it’s long enough, kill off parts of the brain—it’s really, really high-stakes,” Prantik Saha, a pediatrician who reviewed Amalia’s medical records, told me. “It’s shocking that this level of callousness and omission of care could occur.” Amalia was taken to a local hospital, where it became clear that she needed care beyond what the facility could provide. She was transferred to a larger hospital in San Antonio, where she was given five diagnoses: Covid-19, RSV, bronchitis, pneumonia, and an ear infection. She received supplemental oxygen and intensive care.

Quick and dirty; here's ICE arrests in Minnesota by criminality, from October 2025 to early March 2026. Note the MASSIVE spike in arrests of people with no criminal record /"convicted criminal" means any conviction no matter how minor. "Other immigration violator" means no known criminal record.
Chart shows Daily ICE Arrests in Minnesota by Criminal Record,
October 2025 to March 2026, 7-day rolling average

From October 1 through December 1, average daily arrests are below 10. Then there is a spike in December, with average daily arrests of people with no criminal convictions rising to around 30 then falling back down by the end of the month, while arrests of those with any conviction or pending charges rises a bit to around 10 per day.

Starting in January there is a massive spike. In mid-January daily arrests if people with no criminal convictions peak at over 90 a day, and remain above 40 a day in the entire month of January. Arrests of people with prior convictions also goes up, but only to around 20 per day on average, which remains through to mid-February. Arrests of people with pending charges peaks in mid-January at around 17 per day, then falls to around 10 per day until mid-February. By March, arrests in each category are back down to below 5 a day.
