A detained US greencard holder's lawyers don't know where he is. They were told he was being held in one facility, yet when his wife went, she was told he was not there. (h/t @premthakker.bsky.social). When reporting these facts in other contexts globally, we call this disappearance.

Okay so you know I like to remind everyone how the American immigration system has been cruel for a very long time. But loading people on flights to deport them to countries that they are not from, like Iranians to Panama, is not business as usual.

Derrick Bell's reminds us: The goal is DEFIANCE. Resist oppression, harass those who seek to harm us and our communities. We will not sacrifice Black & Brown people, Trans folks, immigrants, Disabled folks, and all of us at the intersections of multiple oppressions. Defiance is the way forward.
White text on Black background: “I asked one of the organizers, Mrs. Biona MacDonald, where she and the other black families found the courage to continue working for civil rights in the face of intimidation….Mrs. MacDonald looked at me and said slowly, seriously, "I can't speak for everyone, but as for me, I am an old woman. I lives to harass white folks."…. Mrs. MacDonald assumed that I knew that not all whites are racist, but that the oppression she was committed to resist was racial and emanated from whites. She did not even hint that her harassment would topple those whites' well-entrenched power. Rather, her goal was defiance, and its harassing effect was likely more potent precisely because she did what she did without expecting to topple her oppressors. Mrs. MacDonald avoided discouragement and defeat because at the point that she determined to resist her oppression, she was triumphant.”

“I don't think the point is: Why are we different? Why have we refused to walk one of two narrow paths, but instead demanded the right to blaze our own? The question is not why we were unwilling to conform even when being beaten to the ground by ridicule and brutality.

The real burning question is: How did we ever find the courage? From what underground spring did we draw our pride? How did each of us make our way in life, without a single familiar star in the night sky to guide us, to this room where we have at last found others like ourselves? And after so much of ourselves has been injured, or left behind as expendable ballast, many of us worry "What do we have left to give each other? Upon what basis will we build something lasting between us?"

I think we have a whole world to give back to each other.”

I hope that the ceasefire deal truly means an end to the vicious, murderous bombardment of Palestine and I also know that there are not enough ceasefire deals to cover the dead. The United States supplied the weapons and Israel used them. Never forget. Free Palestine!!!

I'm reading news of an imminent ceasefire deal. I'm praying that the violence truly stops, that we don't see drawn-out death by another name. I pray that we all stay alert and awake regardless of what comes next. None of us are free until Palestine is free and a ceasefire is not freedom.
