For the last couple years, I’ve been brooding over a lacuna in Simone Weil scholarship that’s just… utterly baffling. I don’t think I’ve ever encountered something quite like it. Planning a book that addresses the issue. Mentioning here so that I stop procrastinating and write the damned proposal.

It is profoundly strange, to my ears, when I hear philosophy discussed in terms of an accumulation of insights or established positions. It makes sense to me to discuss the historical-critical approach to textual traditions, sure. But the discipline of philosophical reflection?

Just saw that Netflix India has a series called “Kurukshetra.” For some reason, Sri Krishna is depicted as… mmm idk… very *smug* in it? I love the Gita, and I’ve always thought of him as a loving friend. Not smug and condescending!

“Common to all our most threatening troubled is one characteristic which might appear reassuring to a superficial eye, but is in reality the greatest danger: *they are conflicts with no definable objective.* The whole of history bears witness that it is precisely such conflicts that are the most bitter. It may be that a clear recognition of this paradox is one of the keys to history; that it is the key to our own period there is no doubt.”

Gee, really?
Umfrage: US-Bürger zweifeln an Trumps Religiosität

Online seit heute, 11.45 Uhr
Teilen

“Christ in the Wilderness,” Kramskoy (1872).

Christ is depcited during his 40 days in the wilderness. He sits on a stone in contemplation, hands clasped, eyes downcast, face evocative of both sadness and resolution.
