Happy to share the first preprint from our lab, led by @arrosan.bsky.social, in collaboration with @ccb-lab.bsky.social. We identify a conserved cohesin-interacting motif in Red1 required for its recruitment, DSB formation, and Mek1 activation. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... #meiosis #recombination

Cohesin–axis interaction via a conserved Red1 motif promotes domain-specific DSB formation and Mek1 activation
Faithful chromosome segregation during meiosis I requires tight control of interhomolog recombination. In budding yeast, the meiotic chromosome axis, built on Rec8-containing cohesin together with Red...

The main project of my postdoc with @spo11rulz.bsky.social is now available on bioRxiv! By systematically integrating structural information with molecular evolution analyses, we gained new fascinating insights into the evolution of key meiotic recombination proteins: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Hi Bluesky. For my first post, I'd like to advertise the latest preprint from my lab, describing at long last our reconstitution of SPO11-dependent double-strand break formation from purified recombinant proteins. Outstanding work from PhD student Zhi (Zack) Zheng.
Experimental results showing DNA break formation by purified SPO11 protein. Above is an image of an electrophoresis gel, below is a graph showing quantification of the DNA cleaving activity

To journal editorial folks: If your journal doesn't already, please consider changing your work flow to return to authors at the proof stage a copy-edited version of their paper with editors' changes tracked. Just caught a major editor's mistake in some proofs.
