Hello hi journalist here. College paper journalists are still journalists and honestly they go harder than a lot of their more established peers. Cornell's reporters deserve a Pulitzer. Also Tracey is not a journalist because he doesn't follow established journalism ethics guidelines 🤷‍♀️

If a clearly harmful product is degrading society the "biggest problem" isn't that some of the people saying so aren't using the exact right words so unfortunately everyone else's hands are tied and the harms must continue forever. The argument is absurd.

The image is of a four panel comic. The title reads "Poltergeist".
In the first panel we see a woman with a worried expression on her face. She says, "stuff keeps moving around my house."
In the second panel the same woman says "I'm terrified. I can't sleep."
In the third panel we see a ghost holding a candle and a pillow that reads "live laugh love". The ghost is zooming through the house.
In the fourth panel we see the same ghost hanging up a frame and thinking, "home decor is my passion".

Canada's New Pipeline, Explained
Looking for news on the new pipeline? Prime Minister Mark Carney has listed the West Coast Oil Pipeline, now called Pacific Link, as a project of national interest. Here is what the announcement says, what it doesn't, and what happens next. In this video, I read the actual announcement so you don't have to rely on headlines or hot takes. Topics covered: — What the Pacific Link pipeline is and why the West Coast Oil Pipeline was renamed — What a "project of national interest" means under the Building Canada Act — How the Major Projects Office and the Canada Energy Regulator fit into the review — Who will own Pacific Link: the federal government, Alberta, Pembina Pipeline Corporation, and a minimum 10% offered to Indigenous communities — Why Trans Mountain Corporation is leading the project — Whether the pipeline route has been finalized (it hasn't) — How an extra one million barrels a day would change Canadian oil exports to Asia — Why the national-interest designation does not mean construction starts tomorrow Keywords: Pacific Link pipeline, West Coast Oil Pipeline, Carney pipeline announcement, new pipeline news Canada, Alberta pipeline to the BC coast, Building Canada Act, project of national interest, Major Projects Office, Trans Mountain Corporation, Pembina Pipeline, Canadian oil exports to Asia, Indigenous ownership pipeline, Canada pipeline explained, Canadian politics If you found this useful, subscribe for more plain-language breakdowns of Canadian news, from my series "Let's just read the goddamned thing." #PacificLink #CanadaPipeline #CarneyPipeline #CanadianPolitics #CanadaNews #BuildingCanadaAct #pipeline -- 🏆 Get exclusive weekly Behind the Scenes videos and more by joining this channel! https://www.youtube.com/todmaffinvideo/join 📰 NEWSLETTER https://newsletter.todmaffin.com ✅ MY LINKTREE: https://links.todmaffin.com ☕ Like my stuff? — Buy me a coffee https://support.todmaffin.com 🦋 Follow me on Bluesky — https://bsky.app/profile/todmaffin.com 🔗 Contact my team — https://contact.todmaffin.com

I really do think tech crossed a line at some point between "helping you do the things you want to do" on the one hand, and "helping you do the things tech wants you to do" on the other. At this point, we're all contorting ourselves to live how the tech industry thinks we should be living.

Again: AI is a technology but it's also an ideology; that ideology is Bossism; neither bosses nor AI advocates really understand what most people do in their jobs so both assume AI can do it. They're *trying* but if these tools could replace jobs beyond Junior Software Developer, we'd know.

Today is Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day of memorial to recognize the atrocities and multi-generational effects of the Canadian Indian residential school system.
When we say every child matters, that includes the children who survived, not just the ones who died. The ones who came back damaged, and whose damage flowed down to their children and grandchildren. The ones who society forgets, or looks at in disgust or pity.

Those children matter too.

On an orange background, the outline of a feather is constructed from many other feathers in rainbow colours. Underneath are the words every child

How many times must we say this? AI* software does not “go rogue” any more than your printer “got religion” when it stopped working Sunday. Software does not have intent or agency. People do. And this feels like some people might be exposed to liability. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/29/t...
Months before OpenAI’s artificial intelligence went rogue, two employees raised an alarm with top executives. They were ignored.

In emails, the employees said they worried that OpenAI’s newest artificial intelligence models were not being appropriately monitored during testing to gauge the technology’s sophistication and to secure the models, according to messages viewed by The New York Times.

Calling empathy a "sin" is the literal definition of heresy. I know this doesn't mean much to nonreligious people - and it shouldn't! - but it needs to mean a lot to the folks of faith when we hear it. We need to call tgat shit out, name it as heresy, and defeat it.
