Also, I love the presence of RPG creators at craft and art and zine events where they wouldn't have been just a few years ago. I bought a RPG last night with its own narrowly inspired original system. It's basically Jurassic Park and all your character stats are about escaping danger.

A RPG rulebook for a game of escaping from a dinosaur park by a creator in Colorado named Stacy Mitchell. It's clearly inspired by Jurassic Park. It has its own rulesystem called DODGE!. The cover art is a black and white drawing of a t-rex splashing in a stream. There's a square black and white sticker promoting the creator's other Mork Borg derived game WITCH.

The player sheet for the "Prehistoric Perils" DODGE! game showing the character stats are DODGE, DUCK, DIP, DIVE, DODGE!.

I love playtesting because I get to deep-dive into what the designer is aiming for with themes and mechanics, and really poke at what all the cogs of a game are doing together. A really common thing I see in fiction is an academic type who instantly knows all of the obscure facts down to dates and years about exactly what the protagonist needs. Never any "Around 1750", always "That poet went to a pub in Belgium on the third of May, 1751 where he met a strange man..."

Karen Sneider has a technique for panel gags of setting a 20 minute timer, free associating on a topic, and then drawing each of the words until a joke comes up

#1: You can play a sentient personality construct trapped in the Deck you were connected to when you died. One of the Reggie archetypes is "The Flatline." Powers include paying less rent on your apartment (how much room does a computer need?) and having redundant clones for when you die again.
