I stayed up late last night reading the playtest doc for Dead Net from @acoupleofdrakes.bsky.social and @navidrake.bsky.social. I'd have done it earlier but I hadn't realised it existed. It's pretty raw text but also complete enough you can see the game and test it out if you are minded to do so.

#10: Uncle Sharkey. In Dead Belt, you got a loan for your ship from the Bank. You can't get a small-business loan to become a hacker. The relationship feels VERY different. Sharkey's a lot more volatile. Sometimes he'll swing by to say hello, take you out to dinner. Or he might break your kneecaps.

#9: Navi made me put in a young, scrappy character to match the vibe of the Void Rat from Dead Belt. The Script Kiddie's got a tearjerker backstory baked in. I'd have been too tender hearted to write it unless Navi had told me to. Kids don't deserve the abuses of dystopia capitalism.

#3: Deep Nodes. In Dead Belt, the ships just got wider and developed more chokepoints. In Dead Net, Grids have particular points of interest. You can skim the surface and maybe find the paydata that makes the trip worth it, but if you want to maximize your time and effort, you hit the Deep Nodes.

#2: All of the factions sound like a bummer to work for but legitimately cool to party with. There are roll-charts for both. Yeah it sucks to be patching known exploits in patient security databases for Bellator-Orion. But custom endorphin tasting party. Low lights, subtle grooves? Sounds like fun
