I think the fact that the world's richest man who is almost singlehandedly bankrolling the Republican party this year is a vehement white supremacist should be relevant for media reporting. but what do I know

this is literally just racism and the media will never call it that

it is a very depressing fact that, for basically my entire life, Republican governance has basically boiled down to massive, wealthy-friendly tax and government service cuts and expensive Middle East wars, with basically no long-term effects on their brand despite disastrous consequences every time

it's incredible how MAGA fabricated a conspiracy about Talarico checking into rehab then almost immediately a real story broke about Ken Paxton partying in the Middle East with convicted felons. and MAGA is still mad about the fake story!

People forget that J6 was successful. Everyone who participated was let out of jail and the guy who perpetrated it is President again. There were no consequences. They have plenty of incentive to do a much bigger and worse version.

Here in Birmingham, our electricity bills are 41% higher than Huntsville's because we have an awful investor-owned utility (that has the state government in their pocket) and Huntsville has public power www.al.com/news/birming...

every single day elon musk says or endorses stuff on x dot com that is worse than any of the quotes they've pulled up for hasan piker and he will be the single biggest political donor in the entire country, supporting republicans up and down the ballot somehow none of them are asked about it

it’s unconscionable that Hasan Piker, a popular streamer who sometimes endorses a Democrat, is considered heftier moral baggage through association than white supremacist, anti-democracy billionaires like Musk and Thiel who literally bankroll the Republican Party

Note on pieces like these, not only is there no suggestion that Republicans should distance themselves from him, there's no hint that there's a reason to. No recap of his CSAM machine. No inflammatory racist quotes. No mention of the DOGE death toll. No history of his fabulist quotes.

it’s insane to me that an average person reading news media is likely left with the idea that any association with Hasan Piker is one of the most extreme things a politician could do these days, rather than, say, pardoning violent insurrectionists or covering up the Epstein sex trafficking ring

I would love to see polling on this question in more cities across the country. Public power is having a moment for a lot of reasons, and I’ll be curious to see whether local leaders harness this momentum and establish new public power entities for the first time in almost 20 years.

It is genuinely bizarre that we’ve become acclimatized to right wingers throwing a tantrum every time a black person (particularly a black woman) is cast in something, but are also supposed to pretend that this is not racism but related to some other substantive concern.

The fact that VP JD Vance and Richard Grenell went to Romania—on behalf of the Trump Administration— to advocate for Andrew and Tristan Tate, who by all accounts, were rapists running a coercive sex ring, then permitted them to come to Florida, should be a crazy, crazy scandal.

these deals are simply grotesque energy policy. it’s unconscionable to shut down clean power development through bribes and illegal roadblocks in a time when the perils of our over-reliance on fossil fuels are being exposed by a conflict of choice and growing discontent over electricity prices.

A state that redraws its legislative maps before every election to maximize advantage for the incumbent party is not a democracy or a republic and in any case obviously violates the guarantee clause, among many others. No country does this. No country ever thought of doing this. It is a total farce.

fascinating result from a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. only 10% of Americans think AI is having a positive impact on society, and negative sentiment about AI is relatively bipartisan. I predict AI and all its related issues (energy/water use, safety, etc) will only become more salient for voters
