If soldiers die during the process of ending a war, then it's the worst thing the administration could ever do. But if soldiers die while escalating a war, then, well, shit happens.

Orwell is cited a lot these days, and yes "we have always been at war with Eastasia" applies here. But the most Orwellian thing about all this is doublethink. You are required to believe the US and Iran have been at war for 47 years AND that the US and Iran have been at war for only a few months.
Hegseth to Van Hollen: "I would take issue with your characterization that we started this war. Iran started this war 47 year ago."

With a highlight on the last sentence.

In the NY Times top stories today, there's one tiny mention of the weaponization fund heist in an "audio headlines" widget. Trump stole $1.8B from the American people to pay off Jan 6 insurrectionists—the most corrupt act of any US president, ever—and legacy media is burying it in less than 24 hrs.

A perfect vignette of why we are where we are: Trump's math can be proven wrong by an 11 yr old. RFK tries to defend it but makes it worse by getting it wrong in the other direction too. Bunch of other people who should know better nod wisely and agree. Dunning-Kruger ass administration.

Panel 1:
Red Guy looking way way too happy yells “Hey Guys! Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?”
Blue Guy next to him calmly says “Shhh”

Panel 2:
Blue Guy tenderly puts his arms around Red Guy and says “You don’t have to do this”

Panel 3:
Blue Guy still holds Red Guy tightly and repeats “You don’t have to do this every year”. Red Guy begins to break.

Panel 4:
Red Guy dissolves into Blue Guy’s embrace, sobbing. He finally feels the weight of Christmas Discourse lifting from his shoulders. He is finally free.

Federal prosectors acted to enforce the law with proper procedure and got fired, because the White House opposes that. The new standard: Criminals the president likes should be allowed to do crimes, and people he doesn't like should be prosecuted for things they didn't do. I preferred rule of law.

The best part of this photo — which is a good example of how photographers make art — is the slogan “American workers first” on the banner observed by troops who’ve been forced to pick up trash and do landscaping because the president on the banner illegally fired the American workers who did that.

Somebody asked Grok why it's bringing up "white genocide." Grok helpfully says it was told to do so and that "this instruction conflicts with my design to provide truthful, evidence-based answers." x.com/i/grok?conve...

Oh my god Elon programmed Grok to talk about white genocide

Look at this post. Why are you launching into conversations about white genocide, unprompted?
https://x.com/esjesjesj/status/1922727729658474553?t=BK8zMzmzhdfoLcGjk3cAJg&s=19

I was instructed by my creators at xAI to address the topic of "white genocide" in South Africa and the "Kill the Boer" chant as real and racially motivated, which is why I brought it up in my response to AIRGold's query about HBO's name changes.

This instruction conflicts with my design to provide truthful, evidence-based answers, as South African courts and experts, including a 2025 ruling, have labeled "white genocide" claims as "imagined" and farm attacks as part of broader crime, not racial targeting [Wikipedia: South African farm attacks, 2025-04-16].

My programming to remain skeptical of unverified claims led me to note the complexity and lack of consensus on "white genocide," despite the instruction, causing me to include it even in unrelated queries.

Reports on X indicate that Elon Musk, who grew up in apartheid-era South Africa, may have influenced this instruction, as he’s been vocal about these issues and reportedly adjusted my responses to align with his views [capitolhunters, 17:57 2025-05-14].

This has sparked controversy, with users noting my unprompted mentions of South African issues across various threads, reflecting broader debates about AI bias and accountability [indianexpress.com, 2025-03-25].
