Bikes aren’t the reason why traffic is bad. Cars getting in the way of other cars are. The best way to reduce traffic is to give people other options to get around. That means bikes. And transit. And pedestrian-first streets.

For me, LLMs are clearly powerful machines, but everything about their construction and deployment in society by the people constructing them appears oriented around achieving a political project that deeply conflicts with my values or a vision of a future I want to live in and dont have a choice in

I switched to using Ecosia years ago, and it’s been great. It’s a search engine that uses their profits to take action on environmental concerns, mostly planting trees. www.ecosia.org

Ecosia uses 100% of its profits for the planet and produces enough renewable energy to power all searches twice over.

also like, my measure of "wealth" now is how much of things going wrong you can bounce back from and maintain a basic standard of living. It is not about improving said standard of living. I want a house so I can't be priced out of my apartment. I want retirement money so I'm not homeless at 70.

Consider the following scenarios:
• You join a meeting with a coworker.
Your coworker has enabled an Al tool to automatically take notes and summarize the meeting. They do not ask for consent to turn it on. The tool mischaracterizes what you discuss.
• A team lead adds an Al chatbot to a Slack channel. Anyone can tag the bot to answer questions about the company's products. Coworkers tag the chatbot many times a day.
You never see someone check that the bot's responses are correct.
• An engineer adds 12,000 lines of code affecting your app's authentication.
They ask that it be reviewed and merged same-day. Another engineer enlists a "swarm" of Al agents to review the code. The code merges with no one having read the full set of changes.• A designer is tasked with exploring a new feature. They prompt an Al tool for an interactive prototype.
Design crit is spent analyzing visual details in the generated prototype, with minimal discussion of core ideas, goals, or tradeoffs.
• One of your pull requests has been open for a few days. You ask other engineers to leave a code review. Minutes later, an engineer pastes a review that was generated by an Al tool. There are no additional thoughts of their own.
• You point an engineer to the relevant section of a library's docs in order to request a feature. They tell you that the feature request is not possible, and send a screenshot of their chat with an Al tool as proof.
• Documents and code are being generated faster than team members can review. You get the feeling that most people have stopped reading altogether.
• Organization leadership has mandated that each person adopt new Al tools to
"uplevel" themselves and their team.

Today is officially the 30th anniversary of Steamed Hams. On April 14, 1996, "22 Short Films About Springfield" aired for the first time!
Steamed Hams full transcript

Well, Seymour, I made it- despite your directions.
Ah.
Superintendent Chalmers.
Welcome.
- I hope you're prepared for an unforgettable luncheon.
- Yeah.
Oh, egads! My roast is ruined.
But what if I were to purchase fast food and disguise it as my own cooking? Delightfully devilish, Seymour.
Ah- Skinner with his crazy explanations The superintendent's gonna need his medication When he hears Skinner's lame exaggerations There'll be trouble in town tonight Seymour! Superintendent, I was just- uh, just stretching my calves on the windowsill.
Isometric exercise.
Care to join me? Why is there smoke coming out of your oven, Seymour? Uh- Oh.
That isn't smoke.
It's steam.
Steam from the steamed clams we're having.
Mmm.
Steamed clams.
Whew.
Superintendent, I hope you're ready for mouthwatering hamburgers.
I thought we were having steamed clams.
D'oh, no.
I said steamed hams.
That's what I call hamburgers.
You call hamburgers steamed hams? Yes.
It's a regional dialect.
- Uh-huh.
Uh, what region? - Uh, upstate New York.
Really.
Well, I'm from Utica, and I've never heard anyone use the phrase "steamed hams.
" Oh, not in Utica.
No.
It's an Albany expression.
I see.
You know, these hamburgers are quite similar to the ones they have at Krusty Burger.
Oh, no.
Patented Skinner burgers.
Old family recipe.
- For steamed hams.
- Yes.
Yes.
And you call them steamed hams despite the fact that they are obviously grilled.
Ye- You know, the- One thing I should- - Excuse me for one second.
- Of course.
Well, that was wonderful.
A good time was had by all.
I'm pooped.
Yes.
I should be- Good Lord! What is happening in there? - Aurora borealis.
- Uh- Aurora borealis at this time of year at this time of day in this part of the country localized entirely within your kitchen? - Yes.
- May I see it? No.
Seymour.
! The house is on fire.
! No, Mother.
It's just the northern lights.
Well, Seymour, you are an odd fellow but I must say you steam a good ham.

This morning, I became the first New York City Mayor to visit Housing Court. And what I saw will stay with me for a long time. Families on the brink of losing their homes. Tenants navigating unsafe conditions, harassment, and uncertainty, searching for justice in an overwhelming system. Small property owners trying to keep up with their mortgage payments.
I met with Chief Administrative Judge Joseph Zayas, New York City Administrative Judge Shahabuddeen Ally, and other members of the bench, and I walked through Resolution, HP, and NYCHA Parts. I spoke with people in intake, with legal service providers, and with the advocates who show up every day to stand beside New Yorkers who need support.
Housing court is where the promises we make about dignity, stability and public excellence are tested in real time.
In the months ahead, my team will work closely with the Chief Judge and the Chief
Administrative Judge to confront the concerns we heard - directly from judges, tenants, landlords, legal service providers, and advocates.
