Once I saw a screenshot for Gears 2 and mistook one of the new guys for a big burly butch woman. I thought it was super cool to have a lady that could be as big as the guys. But when the game was released I realized my mistake and ever since I've been sort of disappointed in those games.

If I showed my game in its current state to myself when I first started making it I'd be like "What the fuck?! How it turn in to THAT?!" And it wouldn't be a bad reaction. It would just be confusion.

I have a curious problem in my game's environment damage. Fire Damage - You have a second to get out of it before you take damage Void Damage - You fall in to a void, take damage and then warped to a checkpoint Spike Damage - You fall on spikes take damage and must get out before it damages again

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

Control Resonant takes a little bit to get rolling, but when it does it shines. It's a very different game than the first Control, not just with being melee over shooting, but in vibes and style - which is super cool in my books! I always appreciate it when a sequel has the guts to change it up.

I have to write a business plan for reasons, and so far I've started three different drafts. The only thing that's stuck for each draft is the header "Never Give Up. Trust Your Instincts." Which is about as much of a business plan as I actually have.

People upset with Resonant replacing Jesse with Dylan confuse me. "Jesse was so cool and Dylan is so boring." We literally have no idea who Dylan is! Last we spoke to him he was possessed by the Hiss. Anything we know about him before that was him being raised isolated in a fucked up building.

it would be helpful to mention japanese labor laws re: layoffs as a factor in these types of stories
Quiet Restructuring vs. U.S.-Style Layoffs

In Japan, U.S.-style sudden mass layoffs are rare by law and custom. Instead, firms practice a "quiet change". They curb hiring, redeploy staff internally, and expand early-retirement schemes. For example, Tokyo Shoko Research reports that 46 listed companies in FY2025 offered early retirement to over 20,000 workers. Notably, many announcements emphasized retraining and redeployment over firing. A consultant's study notes that Japanese companies are focusing on "eliminating redundant tasks" to boost productivity, rather than simply cutting headcount. What, if any, additional considerations apply if large numbers of dismissals (redundancies) are planned? How many employees need to be affected for the additional considerations to apply?
-

In cases of layoffs, courts tend to determine the validity of the dismissal by comprehensively considering the specific circumstances related to the following four elements (Tokyo District Court Decision, January 21, 2000; Osaka High Court Judgment, March 24, 2016, etc.).Since restructuring dismissals are dismissals based on the employer’s circumstances, stricter standards are applied in determining their validity than for dismissals attributable to the employee’s fault. These standards apply regardless of the number of employees targeted for dismissal.

(i) Necessity of Personnel Reduction: The implementation of personnel reduction must be based on sufficient necessity arising from corporate management issues such as recession, decline, or poor business performance, or be recognised as an unavoidable measure.

(ii) Efforts to Avoid Dismissal (Necessity of Selecting Layoffs as a Means of Workforce Reduction) : Measures to avoid layoffs must have been implemented, such as reducing expenses (including cutting overtime pay by stopping overtime work), reducing temporary workers, reducing or eliminating executive compensation and employee bonuses, not renewing fixed-term contracts, halting new hires, suspending pay raises, reassigning employees, or offering voluntary retirement programs.

(iii) Rationality of Selection: Objective and reasonable criteria must be established for selecting employees subject to dismissal, and these criteria must be applied fairly.

(iv) Fairness of the termination process: Conducting labour-management negotiations, individual interviews, and other procedures to provide explanations, disclose information, and engage in consultation with workers.

I think it's important that we talk not just how much crunch time impacts one's personal life, but the impact it also has on one's health. Sitting at a desk for 10+ hours a day 5-7 days a week with very little to no physical activity is incredibly harmful to the human body.
