Today, AB 1729 - the assembly bill requiring each state agency justify a need for RTO - just passed the California state senate and is on Gavin's desk. Also today, my office's break room was overflowing with staff I've never seen before who had no cubicle to work from.

By my estimate, inflation, meager raises, and pay cuts cost CA state workers $4,200/y since 2019. Global Workplace Analytics's estimates four days of telework saves state workers $4,280 dollars. Telework offset all the losses. That's why Newsom's RTO order has become a worker flashpoint.
