My favorite part of Dracula was when Dracula attacks with a swarm of rats and one of the crew is like "good thing I brought my trusty rat terrier!"

Am I missing something? The linked article says that Buttigieg was not connected to the bread price fixing scheme, and that he didn't really care about the work he did for McKinsey.

Current pet peeve: nonfiction writing promising to "delve". I do not wish to delve. Done with delving. The time is ripe for ascension.

As a math teacher, I have thought about this quite a bit. I think that actually, people's intuition is good, because most of the things we model as exponential functions are logistic functions. I'm the pond example, there are constraints which slow down the algae when the lake is mostly full.

I bet it helps that their cars are mostly smaller and lighter than ours. Perhaps one day, not too long from now, we will get some sensible legislation to limit the SUV arms race.

There's a crosswalk 1000 feet south of Ivy at Sylvan. I agree we need more crosswalks and slower cars on Wheaton Way, and I don't think we need to exaggerate to make that point. One death is too many.

One thing which stands out to me: the article mentions that they will hold back students who don't meet standards in third grade, but they don't mention any similar rule for seventh. I wonder how the trend would compare if you grouped the held-back 3rd graders with the 4th graders.

Currently being built in Bothell. If you change design standards to move the bike lane on the other side of the curb and planter strip you can create a better, safer experience for all modes with the same amount of right of way. Boy it's fun to see things get built.

I am remembering second-hand speculation that we would never need Internet speeds greater than a 9600 baud rate. After all, that is fast enough to transmit text faster than anyone could possibly read it.

Personally, speaking as a mathematician, I really didn't like this book. Su seems to have this belief, which he ties to his Baptist upbringing, that suffering is good for you. He argues that math is good because it gives you a chance to suffer. That was my read of it, anyway.
