I don't have one positive word to say about the Tories, but when American conservatives clash with their UK counterparts they are so unbelievably outclassed lol Reminds me of when Ben Shapiro peed his pants, got up, and left the GB News interview with the arch conservative Andrew Neil

…what most Zionists from the earliest days of the idea were aiming for. It was always a state exclusively for Jews, where the best Palestinians could hope for was second class citizenship in their own homeland, if not expulsion

The only forms of Zionism which aren’t inherently racist are those that encourage Jews to live in Palestine w/out demanding an ethnostate, or those that call for a state in Palestine that ensures Jews have equal rights with Arabs and other Palestinians. Maybe such variants existed but they weren’t…

The idea that one ethnic group should get a state, where others of other ethnicities are not equal citizens with the same rights, is definitionally racist. That was true even before it was put into practice with its genocidal results

TIL that before “unalive” became an annoyingly ubiquitous Gen Z neologism ostensibly to evade social media algorithmic penalties, it was coined by none other than Deadpool in a 2013 episode of Ultimate Spider-Man episode for the same reason (avoiding network censorship)

Would be based if the thieves were actually returning them to their countries of origin, but most likely they’re just going to sell them to unscrupulous antiquities dealers, who will in turn sell them back to western collectors

Question for Semiticists: The Amarna Letters from Canaan are written in a register of Akkadian that shows Canaanite phonological and grammatical influence. Is the same true of those written by Egyptians? Or are the latter more similar to Mesopotamian Akkadian (or a distinct “Egypto-Akkadian”)?

#TIL where exactly the term "abugida" for an alphabet with modified consonant signs to show the following vowel comes from. Besides the South #Semitic letter order shown on the left here, the #Ge'ez script can also be presented as on the right: ʾä bu gi da he wə zo bä gu di ha we zə yo ...
Ge'ez reading table with the HA HU order on the left, the A BU GI DA order on the right, labiovelars bottom left, numbers bottom right, extra letters and English alphabet (with Ge'ez transcription) along the bottom, a map of Ethiopia in the center top, and the "Apostolic Alphabet" practice text in the center. Is she not Muslim? Muslims also believe it’s ok to disguise your beliefs when under duress to apostasize (the famous taqiyyah islamophobes so love). Does she also think crypto-Muslims in Spain were perfidious? Islam also has animal sacrifices so I’m not sure what she thinks makes Judaism different

New — I had the opportunity to see NAZA, the documentary freaking out the Israeli government because of its horrifying firsthand descriptions of the way the IDF has used AI to target and massacre Palestinian civilians. My thoughts on the film’s damning revelations, and the banality of evil:

I saw the documentary the Israeli government doesn’t want you to see
'NAZA' dispels once and for all the myth that the IDF didn't target civilians in Gaza.

A damaged magical amulet featuring a human-like figure surrounded by Arabic incantations (ca. 11th-12th c). The figure (human, jinn, demon?) has a snake draped over its shoulders. The text is mostly nonsense sounds intended to invoke a magical effect when recited. @theul.bsky.social #medievalsky
Dark brown paper manuscript fragment, badly torn around the edges, with a large drawing of a human-like figure with a rectangular torso, conical hat, misaligned eyes, and a snake draped over its shoulders. Arabic text in black ink fills much of the empty space. The fragment sits on a blue background next to a yellow label that reads T-S Ar.51.112 (https://cudl.lib.cam.ac.uk/view/MS-TS-AR-00051-00112/2).
