A portrait-mode rectangular painting of a white woman with long curly dark-blond hair, seated at an easel. She holds a paintbrush in her uplifted right hand, and clutches a handful of paintbrushes with her left hand, with which she also supports a palette. She wears a white or light blue gown that falls so far off her right shoulder that it nearly exposes her right breast. She also wears a pink sash, and is sitting on a gold cloak with a decorated border. At the right of the artwork is a portion of the painting she is working on, a copy of Jacques-Louis David's "Bélisaire et l'enfant à mi-corps."

A painting of a white-skinned blond woman in a long white gown, perched sideways on a stone bench by a balustrade, turning her face toward her left shoulder to gaze at (or toward) the viewer. She holds a single flower stem in her left hand. At the middle left edge of the painting is a footed container on the balustrade, made of stone, with pink flowers growing in it. A stone pillar on a pedestal fills the right edge of the work; around it twines a vine with small red flowers or berries.
