Lamy s’est profondément trompé sur la construction européenne et la mondialisation et il fait la leçon à tout le monde depuis 30 ans. Il ne fallait pas parler de protectionnisme car on était immédiatement taxé de populiste. Cette incapacité à se remettre en question est stupéfiante.

Another important point : if you want to fight the far right, you need to fight its ideology, not to be more and more in line with its ideas. That’s a major issue regarding the center that relied on RN’s vote to keep power under Macron, especially after 2024.

This is where I disagree. Political position must be based on a social analysis, ideas, convictions and finally programmes. That is the only way to convince voters. A coalition of the center that would unite people that have nothing in common will not work

Another possible provision, never used so far, is article 8 TEU. Originally designed for Ukraine and Turkey but, provided that you consider Canada as a neighbor (not obvious though), it might fit.

Polls are often very wrong 8 month before an elections. Besides, for the same reason, democrats chose Clinton over Sanders in 2016, with a dramatic result few month later. The only things that will matter is a programme, and a large base of organised supporters. Only Melenchon and Le Pen have that.

I have long argued that one reason the US has outpaced Europe has been the willingness under successive presidents to run large fiscal deficits.The US hasn't met the Maastricht 3% deficit limit since 2008 (ex, just, in 2014/15). On average ⬆️ 6% of GDP. But now Europe is directly threatened. 1/10

In terms of temperature anomaly for the last three months (MJJ 2026 period), France is the most anomalous country in the world with +2.8 °C above the 1991-2020 average.
