While we are doing air conditioning discourse, I would like to remind everyone of this great Arthur Miller piece about what it was like in New York City (city of very old brick buildings) before air conditioning existed [Spoiler: it was very hot and uncomfortable] www.newyorker.com/magazine/199...

Arthur Miller on Sweltering Summers Before Air-Conditioning
The city in summer floated in a daze that moved otherwise sensible people to repeat endlessly the brainless greeting “Hot enough for ya? Ha-ha!”

ICE is bad. Deportation is bad. Immigration restriction is almost always bad. Armed masked men going into homes without warrants is so obviously villainous that the fact anyone approves it is a stain that will haunt even generous histories of our nation ever after. I am anti-ICE.

This composition had eluded me for nearly a decade, but yesterday I was finally able to capture it. A train rolled through just as the Duquesne Incline was crossing over the tracks in #Pittsburgh, creating a picture perfect winter scene. It was worth the hours and hours I've waited over the years.

On a Sunday afternoon in May of 1955, a ragtag group of forty people crammed themselves into The Black Swan, a cozy pub in the market town of Leominster, England. I think it is good for politicians to live in housing they can easily afford because it means they can take moral stands that may risk their reelection without risking their home It also means they needn't cozy up to those that may employ them (or hire them for "consulting") when out of office
