Before that, I listened from the outside, liking the odd song on tge radio. But suddenly music was important, I soaked it up, developed a taste. Everything before that time even songs from 81 or 82 were distant past. Songs from the 70s were ancient. But from 83 on my life had a soundtrack.

The idea of "being new to pop music" sent my mind on a trip. I remember having a crush on Kim Wilde in 1981 when I was 9. But I actively started listening to pop in 1983 when I turned 11. Spending much of my time in front of the radio, taping songs I liked. 1/2

Let me talk about 7 October 2023. Tbh I'm not comfortable doing so here. I don't trust you. On that day, and in the days following, my experience of social media was deeply, profoundly unpleasant. But a lot changed in my life as a result of the attack and the war. So I may as well share how.

My introduction to Slade was probably "My oh my". I must have been 11 or 12. I only learned much later that they had some really great songs in the seventies. Despite the way they looked.

I always felt that, too. We are probably basing our assumption purely on instinct. But I have learned to trust my instinct, it is usually smarter than the conscious me. ;)

I think Kubricks genius lies in the fact that he made Cruise play that unlikeable character as unlikeable as possible, while letting think that it is a likeable character. So Cruise acts like he thinks a normal, relatable person would act, while in fact being creepy af.

I agree, Tom Cruise is hard to watch. In interviews as well as in films. Always overacting. The only time it worked for me was in "Eyes Wide Shut". Because that annoying character seems to be tailor made for him.

Notes from ADHD brain - night: brain rehearsing a possible conversation about something not clearly defined. > Thinking about fuzzy logic. > wondering about minimum amount of grains needed to build 3 layers. > morning: sitting on floor with tennis balls to verify solution. And how did *you* sleep?

This says a lot about the educational system in the US. Or about how really nothing matters anymore. (It could of course also be a hidden message that he is held hostage and tries to draw attention to it. But I think we can rule that one out.)

The model is on "The Man Machine". But nevertheless, both are great albums and "The Model" is a great track.

A longform experimental instrumental. I like this sort if thing so I already pre-ordered. Probably not for those who are waiting for another Secrets Of The Beehive. (I mean, there already is one. Beats me why so many people want re-hashes of the old stuff.)

I think a lot about DEVS, the Garland series about a tech company working on a computer that can so perfectly extrapolate from a set of given data that it can predict the future. I think that's the basic error at the heart of the AI cult

Roughly the same as in german (Nashorn, Nilpferd, beschleunigen, städtische etc). Is there a nice dutch word for "helicopter"? In german there is the weird "Hubschrauber" (roughly "lift-screwer").

Ich habe seit Jahren nicht mehr in den abonnierten "Skeptiker" reingeschaut. Was geht da ab? Vor ein paar Jahren war da mal ein Artikel über Depressionen, den ich etwas seltsam fand, aber ich habe die Entwicklung nicht weiter verfolgt.

The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:
Erin Redwing
@realizingerin
I went to an rationalist/EA Al doomer event last night with the goal of meeting someone who could calmly explain to me the argument for how they get to the conclusion that Al will kill everyone.
Because these are rationalists, I expected to find people who could lay out a serious extinction pathway, walk through the assumptions and intermediate steps, identify choke points where negative pathways could potentially be regulated, and entertain disagreement about where their assumptions might break down.
My experience was the exact opposite.
The people I spoke to seemed psychologically unable to entertain the possibility that their conclusion (that Al literally kills everyone, which was a point that many would not even budge on) might be wrong.
Their most extreme conclusion was treated as an axiom.
I had multiple people walk out of conversations with me when I questioned their inevitable extinction premise.
At one point during a panel, the moderator asked everyone in the audience who was still skeptical of Al doom to raise their hands. About half the room did. He then told all of the skeptics to leave the panel and go with one of the speakers, who would answer their questions separately. They filtered out all the skeptics, and continued the panel only with the subset who accepted their extreme position.
I genuinely felt like a heretic just for questioning whether superintelligent Al inevitably leads to the extinction of humanity, or entertaining the possibility that the future might actually turn out well.
That does not mean Al safety is fake. Obviously there are serious questions about rapidly advancing Al systems and what happens as they become much more capable. Those are exactly the conversations I went there hoping to have.
But what I encountered was an apocalyptic death cult. These people are not rational. They are deeply afraid, they reinforce that fear in one another, and they have become so emotionally committed to apocalypse

That is of course if your situation is in any way similar. These things come in so many variants. Meditation, Awareness etc are all good. But if you are burned out you need rest and if you need to sleep for hours for a couple of days, then do it, if possible. It might help.

Alexander Kasbohm @akasbohm.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
So how is your nervous system doing, physically? Are you taking meds that might mask exhaustion (Ritalin for example can work wonders against depression but it can also mask exhaustion)? Try to listen to your body. If it needs rest: give it rest. As much as possible.

Alexander Kasbohm @akasbohm.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Couldn't prepare food, talk or do anything. Turned out it was exhaustion. Because my meds masked the exhaustion for months and my system was about to break down completely.

Recently i had a weird bout of what I called "physical depression". It started out of the blue, every day. One moment mood is fine, next hollow feeling going from the solarplexus via the larynx to the tearducts. I was on the verge of bursting into tears with no reason. Couldn't do anything.

Was denkt er? Was glaubt er, dass er da macht? Was wählt der? Welche Musik hört der? Worüber lacht Markus Lanz?

I have an inexplicable aversion to people marching on the spot and singing (or whistling). I have no idea why, but that sealed my dislike of them immediately. (Even if I hadn't seem them, you can't imagine it (their song, you know which one. If they have any others) sung any other way.)
