Don't be fooled into thinking that a "free market" only exists when corporations get to "self-regulate" and do whatever they want. And don't be led to think that the government is "intruding" into the market when it crafts laws to protect the public. The real issue is power — and who has it.

Things I do not understand: there’s an American expression: “you get what you pay for”. Pay more, and you’ll get better quality. So why doesn’t this apply to the public good? We want children educated well but cut education funding. We want no potholes in the road but don’t want to pay a gas tax.
