No, I don’t think that aspect can be blamed on the motion (which, to reiterate, I didn’t vote for). It is because our society, including sadly far too many within the Greens, does not treat Palestinians as having equal worth.

I was just correcting the point that the motion wasn’t proposed by Palestinians. But I do think Palestinian voices and sensitivities and feelings have been entirely decentred in the response since the motion passed.

Andy Burnham's proposals are sadly incoherent. It's unpopular to say this. But you cannot want a National Care Service and an end to rough sleeping while making huge, detrimental changes to the immigration system. The Earned Settlement proposals need to be scrapped. Sign our petition.

Some fair points to think about there

Some of these are arguments to have been had before the motion passed. My point is about how this is unhelpful behaviour now it has passed and we have the media and political class in full-on attack mode.

The motion was written by Palestinians.

I actually voted against the motion. But given it’s now passed, I’d expect some maturity, nous and basic message discipline from the people members put hundreds of hours into getting elected.

Not to mention, as with virtually every other such statement, it does not centre the Palestinians actually oppressed by Israel. Why do their feelings about Zionism and its impact on them never seem to matter?

AGC @agc1985.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Really unhelpful and undermining the party to be posting this. It is just giving ammunition to our opponents at a time when we are subject to an avalanche of bad-faith attacks. Getting apologetic and defensive is just going to encourage more of that.

The Guardian's view on closing tabs is that a pop up should appear when you try to do so. The popup will tell you how brave and fearless their journalism is. The tab you're closing will be an article on how transphobia is good actually.

I note that all of this analysis has been *completely unaffected and unchanged* by Israel embarking on a programme of genocide and ethnic cleansing in the Gaza Strip, West Bank and Lebanon that the white people world has non-negotiably supported. That simply is not a factor, at all.

It is also different from his previous statement, where he just flat out said anti-Zionism is racism. Even if you think it wasn't the wisest strategic move for the Green movement to pass the motion: how is it the wisest strategic move afterwards to wail and moan about how bad a move it was?

Now the leader of Brighton Labour is casually likening the Greens to the British Union of Fascists, scolding Zack Polanski, the only Jewish leader of a major UK party, for antisemitism and failing to mention her own party's ongoing complicity in arming the racist regime the motion is about.

I do have concerns about how strategically wise adopting this motion was, the unintended consequences of some of its wording and positions, the sometimes very unconstructive (or worse) behaviour of some of its supporters. But you can acknowledge those concerns without calling antizionism racism.

Speaking as someone who voted against the motion, and generally likes George Monbiot, this is a terrible and ludicrous take. It denies Palestinians the right to name and condemn their own oppression, and makes a mockery of Jewish members who supported the motion.
