I’m not morally opposed to the death penalty, I’m procedurally opposed to it for ordinary crimes because I don’t trust the American carceral state to fairly apply it. I think it’s necessary in cases of crimes against democracy, but even there I think the condemned deserve a quick merciful death.

One of the frequent failings of feminism is not recognizing intersectionality. It's on perfect display with the WNBA situation. Athletic women are often not traditionally feminine. Women of Color are often seen as not sufficiently feminine. These are all different parts of the same beast.

Congress should enact a law that categorically prohibits, for any sitting president or even for any living ex-president, the use of the president’s name, image, likeness, or signature on federal buildings, programs, websites, currency, military assets, or public lands, and prohibit the expenditure of any federal funds for such projects. It should apply retroactively, a wholesale revocation of all Trump’s improprieties. The reasonable exceptions should be narrow and strictly defined, such as publishing documents and photographs through the Executive Office of the President (that is, “the White House” as such). And it should be written broadly enough that future presidents, of any party, cannot find novel ways around it.

I have no intrinsic problem with *living* people being honored--I think it was cool that Jimmy Carter lived long enough to see a nuclear submarine named in his honor--but honoring any sitting federal official is just flatly inappropriate and at odds with our democratic tradition.
