there are many books about the bizarre, racist, and sometimes just outright stupid beliefs that scientific and technical pioneers had during that period. so keep in mind this when you hear “all human labor will be automated and only option is UBI” and other similar ideas

other beliefs a lot of famous and venerable scientists had from mid-1800s to mid-20th century: * a world government was inevitable * eugenics (calipers galore) * all manner of weird spiritual shit beginning with mesmerism * totalitarianism and command and control economies obviously superior

i think this matters a lot in light of the tendency to say “if you don’t accept expansive metaphysical claims of computationalists, then you’re coping”

for what it's worth, here's why libs hear my criticisms of dems: ▪️i never use or imply 'low agency' narratives that blame dems/libs for fascism ▪️i never threaten (ge) abstention, or imply there's no point voting ▪️i never express sympathy with abstention, say i understand, or kinda defend it

I've also heard enough from the Butlerian Jihad people recently to doubt they'd stop with AI given the chance. There's broad consensus that we've been irresponsible as a society with social media, right? Should probably blow up the internet, just to be safe.
