Part of this is not really possible with modern broadcasts, which are live, but they're interviewing a driver about their plans for freestyle, which just makes it feel like I'm watching a serious racing product.

And this isn't to say that modern Monster Jam (as in, FS1/Post Scott Douglass/Post Crush Cars) is completely awful. I think modern Monster Jam has some of the best racing the sport has had since PENDA, the all-dirt tracks providing interesting layouts. But the coverage lets it down, sadly.

Old Monster Jam felt like it was actually meant to cultivate a longer term fanbase, that it was "all-ages" as in all ages would enjoy it. Yeah, it was very much still childish. That's fine! It just had a much more of an aura of respectability that I like.

Yeah, it'll never hold a candle to peak PENDA era in terms of "legitimate motorsport". Its invite only. There's corporate trucks. But, so what? I've watched and enjoyed plenty of circle track invite only shows, or races with promoter's provisionals, or ones where they pay appearance fees.
