Haven’t watched it, but already exhausted by the “hot takes” on “Carrie”. Here’s the thing, if you prefer a former version of something - the 1995 Pride and Prejudice over the 2026 version; the animated Disney film over the live-action; Sissy Spacek over Summer Howell…then WATCH THE OLD VERSION

White women in the 1960s and 1970s wore a large variety of scarves. Some were hippies doing a Bohemian look; some were keeping their hair under control between weekly salon visits. Maybe you could find a look that isn’t appropriation by digging into that era?

I don’t know if this would work for you, but when my daughter was in her late teens we would still “read” together by listening to an audiobook while we each worked on the craft project of our choice. It opened up many good conversations.

No. I voted for her, much like I did Biden, with alacrity because of the danger of Trump. She’s not what we need in 2028 and she’s unlikely to make it through the primary.

My stylist wanted me to do red highlights, but I’d seen too many women (this was in 1989) end up with orange red hair that way. Did the math and decided I’d take the free highlights. 😁

First grays at 27 on very dark brown hair. I thought I was on the fast track to 100% silver in middle age like my mom’s family. Now at 64 I’m about 50% gray, which is more like my dad. He was barely 75% gray when he died at 95.

Now, wait a minute. For my husband’s “reverse the curse of 2016” idea to work the Cubs have to make it all the way to the World Series. To be beaten by the Guardians at that point, of course. None of this getting swept by the Padres business!

Same experience here, except for the leadership role. Being absolutely sure that you’re in the group that’s doing everything right and everyone else is the enemy feels like a safe place.

IIRC, his origin story included being raised in a high-control KJV-only church/cult. Not excusing him AT ALL, but it’s obvious he has dragged the rigid legalism along to every new version of himself. Never any nuance; never any grace.

My mom used to do her boiling water bath canning in a giant pot over a square brick fire pit my brothers built. Mom and I did the whole getting things in jars part while my brothers tended the fire. All of us kids picked fruit and veg all summer long; Mom took no prisoners.

If you are overwhelmed by all the cruelty and tempted into hopelessness, you are a good person and on the right side of history. Those in power want nothing more than to steal your hope and drive you into apathy. Keeping your empathy and hope alive is an act of resistance.

I hesitate to offer reassurance because it seems like reactions to the shot vary a lot. But mine were: 1st shot-very sore arm 2nd shot-itchy, hot, slightly achy feeling that started at the injection site and moved through my body for two days. Not great, but tolerable and worth it!

I totally agree with you, and I don’t trust Oz or anyone in this administration. My concern is that popular pundits make these posts and we believe they are directly quoting from the speech. There are several who do this, and it’s probably carelessness. But it’s not good reporting.
