There is a strain of Afrocentric crunchy/antivaxx content that uses similar language to MAHA, with an overlay of “we’re reclaiming ancient traditions lost during slavery.” But far as I can tell, these beliefs are about as fringe in their communities as the White mom versions were before COVID/RFK.

Holy shit, this explains the bonkers bird personality test my work had us do! I was the only parrot in my group besides the trainer, who told me that was her type too and said “I LOVE being a parrot” with much more enthusiasm than this test deserves.

Medicare doesn’t cover home health aide services. Medicaid does, but comes with poverty level income requirements. If you are an American senior in need of home support and you have modest assets but not “hire private duty aides for multiple hours a day” money you’re kind of fucked.

In my area particularly there is something in the drug supply that absolutely wrecks people’s kidneys, and then patients with any kind of substance use history have a hard time getting consistent dialysis…it’s a whole nasty cycle and I really want to know if anyone is doing research on it.

Another anecdata point from my work in a hospital hard-hit by the opioid crisis; unsafe supply leads lots of users to have other serious medical complications. Widespread narcan may prevent acute overdoses, but folks still die from other drug complications at astounding rates.

I know @quinnae.com would tell me that posting isn’t praxis, but damned if contributing to this dude getting dragged and shamed was not immensely satisfying.
