It's definitely something to at least test out! Personally it feels like you can get more body and thickness than gouache. And there's MUCH less lifting. Michelle Muldrow has some amazing examples of what Casein can do! I got really inspired to try Casein after finding her art mmuldrow.com

Tell me about it. The last time I used oils and bad ventilation I had a Bad Time™️ You ever try Casein? It feels kind of like oils to me, or moreso than gouache. The tubes they sell have a bit of a...window cleaner smell, but it's not bad for you I don't think

No problem! It does paint a bit thicker than gouache but it still doesn't feel like oils unfortunately, but it's the closest I've found with water soluble media

The only problem I've found with them is that the range of colors that is offered isn't as expansive as gouache or watercolor etc, but that might or might not be an issue for you

I can't speak for water mixable oils or golden open acrylics, but have you ever tried Casein? It's water soluble and opaque like gouache and acryla-gouache but when it tries it's very stable. You can't paint it as thickly as you would with oil or acrylics, but it is quite nice

I definitely agree the UMD format is super weird, I'd say both the PSP and Vita have their own levels of weirdness. I think the PSP is solidly more weird than the Vita, although the vita did make some baffling design choices like the rear touchpanel and the proprietary memory sticks lol

I thought the exact same thing! When I added the last layer to really darken the background I made sure to dilute some of the black I put on top so that it would have some of that color peeking through!

Scarlet Hollow wears the trappings of a visual novel but in practice it is so complex and you are given so much agency it winds up feeling more like an in depth RPG. Upon completing what's out of the game so far I literally immediately made a new character with different traits.

I know it's gauche to quote tolkien but genuinely the most interesting thing in his letters to me is this one from 1963 wherein he laid out in very plain terms what I think is THE fundamental thing that makes so much art have a life in your head beyond what you see on a page or play in a game

I am doubtful myself about the undertaking. Part of the attraction of the L.R. is, I think, due to the glimpses of a large history in the background: an attraction like that of viewing far off an unvisited island, or seeing the towers of a distant city gleaming in a sunlit mist. To go there is to destroy the magic, unless new unattainable vistas are again revealed.
